    Hi,

I have a few fishes and shrimps I want to pass to a friend. May I know how I can transport them? It'll be an hour plus of public transport. Can I just put them in plastic bag and tie up? No pressurised air like from LFS.

    Any advise will be appreciated.

    Bro,

U can try using your air pump to blow up the bags before u tight it up.
It will be good to separate your fishes and shrimps. Do remember to add some moss into your shrimps bags. Otherwise, you will get "hey bee" when you reach your friend house.

That is the only feasible way I can think of too, to use air pump to pump up the bag. If I have a battery operated air pump, maybe can provide air all the way through the journey. Kind of dumb to do so; it should work, but I do not have a battery operated air pump.

Any bros got any other ideas to share?

bro, 1 hour plus should be able to tahan... just use air pump to pump up the bag, tie it properly, add some hornwort or moss for your shrimps... 1 hr plus should be okay. if you really scared, can go buy oxygen ball and put inside.

I once bought fauna from a bro whom used the manual pump we use during WC to fill the bag with air.

for shrimps you can put them in a tau huey tub with water and some moss, the cover poke a couple of small holes. Put it in a small plastic bag with some folded newspaper as base.

As for fish, what type are they and how many?

Take taxi will be fast and safe all the trouble and worry of transportation.
Surely u have to pay more lor ... same as buying a battery pump.

Anyway, i have transported shrimps from AMK to Jurong by MRT as there is no issue. Moss is needed .... otherwise all will be gone.

actually, come to think of it, i've had shrimps transported from Jurong West - Clementi - Paya Lebar - Clarke Quay - Bukit Batok before in a tao huey tub. i think the total time taken was about 8 - 10 hours? all these while no aeration at all, just some strange floating plant (not hornwort for sure) and sometimes open the tao huey tub cover only.

talking about 10+ over malayan shrimps.

oh and remember to tie the corners of your plastic bag so that your shrimps and fishes will not get trapped in them and get crushed!

    cheers

Wow thanks for all the ideas and assurance. Fishes are small in size, like tetras... Taxi ride will make it not worthwhile as it would cost 10 times the cost of all the fishes!! Giving them away because they do not look aesthetically appealing, intending to add other fish and I cannot bear to just throw them away. Thus passing to a friend with new tank set-up to accommodate them.

Thanks for all the assurance, and yes, to tie the corners, something I would not have thought of.

    Cheers!!

There are actually shops that sell small foldable bags where you can put a battery operated air pump in a small pocket. These bags are usually used for people who go for fishing and they put live bait in the bag. Thus you can use this to transport your fish or prawns.

I think 1 hour shouldn't be a problem. If you want to be safe you can spread them out into seperate bags with a few in each bag. This way the oxygen content lasts longer.

Hi All, I am just curious about the part where shrimps need moss when transportation. Saw LFS doing this too but never really understand why. It will die without putting moss? Would appreciate if someone can share the reasons why moss is important to go with shrimps?
