was wondering if harlequin rasboras do spawn for any one of you before, heard crypts are preferred by h.rasboras. also would like to ask if they are fishes the same size or smaller than h.rasboras that breed readily.

The scientific name of the so called harlequin rasbora is actually Trignonostigma heteromorpha. The other similar looking fishes from the genus include T. espei and T. hengeli.

The reason why the scientific names is being raised is because fishes from the genus Trigonostigma spawn differently from fishes from the genus Rasbora. Hence, another reason why it is good to use scientific names as reference instead of the common name.

Fishes from the genus Rasbora are egg scatterers while fishes from the genus Trigonostigma lay eggs on the underside of leaves. Therefore, plants with broad leaves would be necessary instead of moss or other fine leaved plants. It does not specifically have to be Cryptocoryne, plants like Hygrophila, Echinodorus can be used as long as the leaves are broad enough to hold the clutch of eggs.

Generally, using a dedicated spawning tank and pairs would be better if you intend to maximise the success.
