i know that when you plant more plants around the surrounding, it will lower the surrounding temperature...

but will planting more plants inside your tank lowers the overall temperature in the tank???

Humm... logically it should since we're going that for emerged building projects. Rather interesting to know what the others think.

Hmm shouldn't plants or any living organisms generate heat?

Hmm nothing to do with being warm blooded Even bacterias generate heat. In an open environment, it's the shade provided by trees that gives the cooling effect.

I dont feel that planting more plants will lower the temperature of the water. Like what bro Cough mentioned, trees planted in the open space provides shade..but in a water environment, the water is already cool, so by adding more plants, dont think it will make it cooler.

Yup! I used to have the same query before and I was advice by seniors that the only way is to at least install a clip on fan... Just to share

Erm in an open environment, the heat from the sun light is shaded by the plants, thats why we feel more cooling. Also heat transfer is much slower in air as there is no medium of heat transfer.

But in an enclosed environment like water, the heat is not being blocked by the plants, but spread and conduct evenly into the water. So no matter how many plants is inside the tank, the water determines the temperature.

Plants do generate heat when they photosynthesis, energy is used to make their food, when energy is used, heat is generated.

Good circulation with fan helps to cool down the temperature fast as compare to poor circulation. See my tank without using chiller and the moss is growing like crazy. Same logic for chiller, if you had a slow pump, your tank need longer time to cool down and it causes uneven temperature around the tank.

I second that bro, because I had some spare moss that I'm not currently using grow wild due to good circulation (I suppose).

I also think a good circulation of fan can help cool down the temprature

    Smile

    yes,my experience on water circularation..

my hangover filter have an adjustable control for speed.....

on day I switch to Low ...mean lower speed water circularise
because I was feeding the shrimp, to prevent the food flow by water...

but I forget switch back to normal speed..

after I back from work that day, my temp at 28c and that afternoon is a rainning day, it is wied.

Normally the temp will maintain at 26c or 25c..

lucky most of my cherry is fine...but one of crs cannt make it.
    Go heaven at tomorrow afternoon.

that time onwards I always switch the fan power to maximum, thus i have have 25c mostly..

the circularitaion water help to reduce temp.

    sorry for poor english

good water circulation + fan = cooler aquarium always. You can check my readings on my 1FT. 25 degrees... without chiller. But i do have a 8x8 fan acting as an exhaust to draw heat away from the lightset. So that played a part too.

Cool in the living room, cool in the tank. win win situation always.
