    HI

is this filter good??? i read that the flowrate will decrease after 2 weeks of operation.
is the filter flowrate acceptable after 6mths of operation without washing it....
i know ehiem 2211 is acceptable after 6mths of operation... so is eden 501 able to do that???

It all depends on what tank size you are referring to and the bioload...

Don't know if mine has malfunctioned, the flow rate decreased 50%. No matter what i did, the flowrate never went back to normal. In the end I've got other brands of filter to replace it.

Eden 501 has one minor flaw, and not even technically: Its tubing is a bit too small. It uses 9/12 tubing (9 mm inside, 12 mm outside diameter), whereas Eheim filters use 12/16 tubing. 9/12 tubing significantly loses flow after a few weeks due to thin residue buildup on the walls. This residue builds faster with high bioload. I have managed periods without filter (and tubing) cleaning of 3 to 4 months, but with a load of guppys, for example, it is a matter of 3 to 4 weeks. It would be worth investigating if this doesn't happen if one were to use green instead of clear tubing.

Also, filters NEVER keep their purely theoretical flow rate, not even the best ones. I'd rate the Eden 501, quoted at 300 l/h, at about 150 to 200 l/h over longer periods of time.
    Cheers

No. On the contrary. The Eden is designed to be self-priming, i.e. the filter pushes out air itself by using an "internal venturi" of sorts.

i been using eden501 for more than a year now. generally it is very good, well built, quiet and low power consumption but it does suffer from decrease flow rate after a few weeks, so you need to regularly maintain it. However, for mine, flow rate seems to weaken no matter what i do even with the cleaning of impeller. So now i use another small hang on filter (only On at nite) to supplement the weaken 501.

the eden 501 will reduce flowrate after few wks. is it due to bioload or is it the impeller got weaker???

No, the impeller is not the key element, it will run uncleaned for years, in fact it is better NOT to clean the impeller as it gets lubed by residue and runs more silent then. Again: The main reason is the small tubing that needs regular cleaning, especially under high bioload. It's a matter of minutes, tho, with a brush that is designed to clean tubing, or, if your tubing is short, even with a small "bottle brush".

I think it's great for nano tanks of 1ft-1.5ft so long as you do not overload with the bioload... note and agree with the issue of the tubings clogging up... wonder if upgrading the tubing to a bigger size green eheim tube will help
