a good and properly manufactured CO2 tank would be able to last 5yrs depending on the manufacturing date which is incidentally the initial test date. After that it is best to send it to SOXAL after 5yrs to verify the tank again......

Does the 5litre steel type of CO2 tank sold at Nature Aquarium fit the bill to be tested at SOXAL? If not have to change the tank every 5 years huh???? How and where to dispose those tanks?[]
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
A properly maintain tank should be able to last a long time... the problem is that your tank can weaken with age due to stress from pressurised gas, and also corrosion. As such, its good to get a test done at soxal to verify that your tank is still in good shape.
If I remember correctly, what they do is a hydrostatic pressure test... which they basically pressurize your tank to a certain % more than its working pressure (can't remember how much). After which they check to make sure that no expansion has occured at that pressure.

hi peter
soxal basically wants to see the following
manufacturing or initial test date
Test pressure
gross pressure
in the following industrial standards
API, BAR, PSI

Haha..Got it...thanks David...
By the way..the most number of engraving were found on Bioplast CO2 tanks...Ah tan show me that time...wah..shock man...test done by lots of company but sell only 2litre only
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
hi peter
no problem...the bioplast infact all the german made canister are pretty good but like you mentioned the only strange thing is that the common size that they do make is 2 liters....dennerle has up to 3.5 liters (if i am not wrong). Dupla is the only one with the 5liter but the cost may be alittle high compared to a good aluminium canister

Guys
I am using the light green aluminum CO2 tank. How to check whether it is tested by the manufacturer?
If I bring it to soxial for testing, must I empty my co2 tank 1st? Do they open on sun?
Regards
William
you mean bring the tank to soxal just for the sake of testing?
why not use up the co2 first and then send for refill plus testing.
read here for information regarding test done on co2 tank
they may not be open on sundays but you can call them to check.

Hey guys! If you wanna know what SOXAL actually looks for before accepting your cylinder for testing, here is a reply I got from the company.
The cylinders compulsory to have all the pariticular information
engraved on
the cylinder shoulder. Any part of the information missing will be
treated
as stranger cylinder and will be rejected instantly. It is important
and
essential as the informations are the technical specification
determined
whether the cylinder permissible for the intended gas service type, to
fill
to the desired pressure etc. Therefore these are the following
information
must be present in the cylinder shoulder:-
a) Manufacturer marking
b) Chemical gas symbol
c) Hydrostatic test date
d) Test pressure
e) Filling pressure
f) Owner's marking
g) Cylinder serial number
h) Cylinder specification
i) Water capacity
j) Actual/tare weight
The type of the cylinder that suit commonly for CO2 gas service type
are
technical spec DOT 3AA, DOT 3AAA, Luxfer, CTCO, SHP, AIG etc. If the
customer have the necessary informations on the cylinder shoulder it
would
be fit for refilling provide the test date is valid.Otherwise the
cylinder
is subject to Hydrostatic testing.
Hope the reply might be useful to you.
Rgds,
Jef Leong
Hope the following helps...

Oh...David..does your cylinder have all this information listed above? I'm still wondering if mine is going to be accepted. Does SOXAL sell CO2 cylinders? It would definitely be better to get from them if they sell...so much safer..[]
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
why not get a luxfer tank.
They are very good tanks
I Love Penang
hiya pete
thanks for the info for everyone[] my tank has some of the engravings on the shoulder but not all....i have already brought it down and they are fine with it......
SOXAL do sell cylinders.....

do bioplast do testing too?
No..I don't think Ah Tan has the equipment for doing such test...the only test he does I think is leak test..LOL []
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
It is a better idea to bring the tank for refilling and testing at the same time. However soxal is located far away. As my friend is driving there on wkends, i just bring it to them to have a look lor.....

Where is this sub-station? Anyone went before?

along AMK ave 3 and Serangoon north....there is a bluish white industrial building....you need to turn left and go straight in towards AMK ind. park 3 (if i am not wrong)....you may want to call Soxal before going....

There is another SOXAL refilling station at Kallang Tengah. It takes about 2 - 3 weeks to refill your CO2 tank . For more info you can call this no. (62984066) and look for Irene Kwok.
