Recently set up a nature style tank without a cover. It is currently around 10 days old.I used water from the old tank when I transferred the fish over.I found two orange shrimp and one Yamato shrimp, one blue badis and several Espei's rasbora dead on the floor.Do the above species have a tendency to jump?Or could the cause be my water? All this while I've never really monitored my water as I don't own a test kit, just weekly partial water changes,25% to be exact. What is the cause?Any advice? Thanks in advance.

your water is not fully cycled yet. They do not like your water parameters. Hence the tendency for them to jump out.

Buy some test kits to check your water parameters. You can also do a little water change each day to get rid of the ammonia and NO2 build up as your bb colony has not yet fully colonized.

    hope that helps

You may wish to do a simple check on your tank's water parameters (Maybe buy one of those more simple to use 5-in-1 test strips from the LFSs)...

I also guess that maybe the fauna might be stressed with the water in the tank (not fully cycled)... If not, you may wish to get some bottled BBs to aid in the cycling process & maybe get "Seachem Prime" to remove/reduce the ammonia in the water... Or you may choose to do more water changes on a more often basis also... The thing is, don't get tempted to rush into introducing livestocks into the tank until cycling is done (I also learnt the importance of cycling after going through a painful experience of losing many livestocks when I first started...)

    Regards.

PS: Think you were thinking of getting something to tackle GSA in the tank right? Forgot that some bro/sis in here had tried buying & using Nerite snails to get this problem solved...

Thanks everyone.Didn't find anything on the floor today. But just to be safe I think I'll do a little bit of water change each day.
