Hi guys, I've just hatched a batch of brine shrimp a few days ago, and I was planning to "raise" them up to larger size before feeding to my apisto cacas.

I'm currently just feeding them with baker's yeast and some green water taken from a pond and put under sunlight to cultivate.

Can I ask if anyone knows what other food is safe/good to feed the brine shrimp to raise them? I've done some research online and found foods like spirulina and wheat flour, but the former is a bit expensive, and the latter I fear fouling the water..

Does anyone here have experience on raising brine shrimp? Or does any LFS sell live adult brine shrimp?

    Thanks guys..

One more thing.. Anyone knows how long they take to grow up to adult size? I've seen sometimes at C328 the uncle feeding the bettas and apistos the brine shrimp, they were about 1.5cm in length, I even saw some with visible egg sacs. I wonder how long till they get to that size?

IMHO, it is better off feeding the bbs as soon as it hatches and it takes a long time and effort to raise it to adult size....it would be better to just buy adult brine shrimp from lfs instead of raising them...

    C328 sells adult brine shrimp

Heh.. I managed to keep the BBS alive for about 1-2 weeks, using yeast and sera micron (powdered baby fish food). They did get bigger, but eventually they "wiped out", probably due to a build up of toxic substances (e.g. nitrates/ammonia) in the jar.

I came to the conclusion that it is not worth the effort to raise BBS, I'll just hatch them to feed, keeping them alive for a few days after hatching is fine as my fish cant finish all in 1 day.

For adult BS, I just either buy them from LFS (live ones) or just get hikari frozen ones.. Both options are fairly affordable..

Oh.. and one more thing, keeping BBS alive for longer reduces their nutritional value, so I suggest to feed to your fish as soon as possible after hatching.

actually i did successfully raised 1 brine shrimp out of the millions that hatched to adult stage... but its sort of opaque in colour not red... and i didn't feed it at all... so not sure what it feed on... it took a few weeks(never record the time cause at first i got no intention to raise it at all) to grow to that big. but it's roughly around 2-3 weeks in the same solution that it hatched in with no aeration. it died due to my negligence... cause i forget to add water and the whole solution dried up....

They won't clean up the tank but instead will foul the water up when they die
The role of master and servant begin to cloud in the water..

They will die because they are brine (i.e. salt water) shrimps.
