Hi guys,
Time to tighten the belt! Let's share tips and tricks to save money or lobangs to stretch the dollar.
I heard some of our aquarium plants are actually vegetables in other markets. Anyone knows which species and how platable they are?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I'm seriously considering giving up my chiller as well given the new electricity tariffs. Or to turn up the thermostat settings.
Cheers,

Benny you must be kidding me, giving up on chiller due to increase in electricity, i don't believe you. It's not possible, not for you.![]()
Cheers!

Planted tank: Melanotaenia Lacustris, Melanotaenia Parkinsoni, Melanotaenia Praecox, Glossolepis Incisus, Melanotaenia Maccullochi, Melanotaenia Boesemani, Iriatherina Werneri, Barilius Canarensis
cover all 4 sides of the tank with styrofoam sheets. remove the front one when you want to admire your tank. should reduce heat absorption from surroundings significantly.

Reduce lighting period and at the same time, shorten co2 solenoid ON timing.

Lower the tank water, change to FL lighting with good reflector that would save using MH or T5 also you saves lot of water. At the same time using fan instead of chiller, it should bring down the temperature further. Lighting and chiller is the killer of electricity.![]()

hahaha... actually I feel bad about wasting so much water due to frequent water changes... Maybe we can think of how to best recycle the water to get the most out of it..
I'm thinking since now I have a tank of 4ft birchir tank and a 2 ft planted tank, can I take the water I suck out of the birchir tank and pour it into my 2ft tank, with all the birchir goodies as nutrients for my plants, and the new age water will go into my birchir tank... water from planted tank then use to water my submersed plants tank...
Or maybe it should be the other way... new age water into planted tank, water from planted tank into birchir tank... and water from birchir tank use to water my submersed plants tank..![]()
Last time did 1/3 weekly water changes to my 6 ft tank...now I only do it once every 2 weeks. Save water....feed less to the fish...save fish food bills...kekeke...drag the live span of the live foods such as tubifex worms...$1 packet to last for 1 week...hehehe...last time used to buy it every 2 days...
Time to give up the hobby for a while???![]()

Good idea since quite a no of us has at least 2 tanks but i'm not sure whether practically is it good a not though theoratically it's sounds ok.
For me this is what i think is better from the 2 options :
1. Use water from the planted tank to water the plants in the corridor
2. Use the water from the birchir tank to top-up the planted tank
but this is provided if the tank is a low tech tank. Not advicable for high
tech set-up cos it may lead to algae problems due to the possibility of
higher levels of ammonia (less room for error in high tech setp-up)
3. Top-up with age water for the birchir tank.
Anybody with good knowledge of water chemistry knows whether it is ok?
