hi julian

it depends on how many baskets you have in your canister. so i am going to say what i place in my ehiem 2224.

first basket right at the bottom:

1. Ceremic ring (ehiem default), biological glass (biohome), rough blue foam (ehiem default)

second basket above the first:

2. biological glass (bio home), filter floss (ehiem default)

For a planted tank? Do not use charcoal. Everything else is fine.

Looks like the stuff here? That is biohome. It should say Biohome on the packaging too.

charcoal is only used either to get rid of brown water due to leeching from wood deco or removing medication after treatment...other than this, try not to use charcoal
