With the recent popularity of the newer cichlids. and some hybrids like Luohans, I wonder if there is still anybody keeping and enjoying this age old classic,
one of the grandpapas of large cichlids - Oscars...

i love mine, despite the fact that they are considered "cheapskate fish" now. They are very unique fish even by cichlid standards.
from the way they look to the way they behave!

I always make sure i have an oscar somewhere in the house.

Yes they are very very special fish, both to me and in their own rights.

    what oscars do you have?

    I have red and tiger.

i hate the long fins, i dont like anything albino and i just saw the picture of blue oscar...looks very artificial..

there is this bronze oscar too (different from red oscar) that is very beautiful...the markings like tiger but the colour of the marking is a metallic bronzy grey

    i have 2 oscars.
    dark brown with red spots.
both about 10" and are in a 3ft.

feed the with bloodworms, frogs and feeder fishes.
love the way they come underneath their prey and suck them into their mouths.
also they seems to recognise you...

    nsa,
sorry no pic as no $$$ to buy digi cam.
    i have slr only.

had these 2 oscars for 2.5 yrs.
started from 3" in 2' tank and changed to 3' when they are abt 4"-5".
from what i observed, they grow better when fed with bloodworms, feeder fishes and frogs.
they can gobble 4 cubes of bloodworms at a time.
pellet food is ok but less growth.
i monitored by looking at the lighter coloured fin tips.
