    Hello all,

Human activities around my tank often startle the fish in it expecially my discus.

I would like to know if there is any special transparent material that I can paste on my tank such that only we can see the inside of the tank and the fish will not be able to see out of the tank?

    Thanks,
    Wahboy

sounds like a good idea as discus are very timid. even getting a closer look will scared them.

How about those 2-way mirrors used in police station for identifying suspects ? You can see them, but they can't see you ? But don't know where to get them though..

Doubt you may be able to get them easily as may need special license etc.. as you may be considered as a voyeur if you install it in a normal room in a house..

A colleague of mine from work lost his prized discus because his new maid decided to wipe the tank glass with a rag. The discus died with it's beautiful colour still intact. Never saw him come to work with an angry face. I can understand Wahboy concern.

Hmmm ... seems like a lot of people have a lot of different experience with discus. My discus never has much problem with being scared. Even come to the front when they see me - they know I'm gonna feed them. I wipe the outside of the tank, wipe the inside during water change, drain water until they cannot swim upright, use my hand to gently bring them out to the front if I want to have a closer look. No problems. The few times they hide is when I switch on the aquarium lights (they'll hide for a few minutes then come out again) and when my daughter decides to be naughty and go knocking on the aquarium glass. Other than that, they're usually up front.

hmm.. think is your spirit that fish scare ..

My cardinal tetra also like that .. but recently bought 10 ramby tetra for my 2ft tank and they don't scare at all ... see me than all swim close to the front glass.

I also want to get one 2 ways mirror tank than can see the fish swim naturally.

I believe fishes recognises their 'keeper', the one who'll provide food for them. Be it freshwater or saltwater, these fishes will adapt and recognise their 'keeper'. Back when I was starting in Secondary school, I had a cheap arowana. It was so tame, I had it swimming between 2 of my fingers. It would also recognise my father but when my mom or sister approach the tank, it will stay in 1 corner of the tank. It's the same with marine fish. I could place my head at 1 end of the tank and have all the fishes swim toward me, even if it's swimming against the wavemaker.
