Temperature might well be a factor...what is the temp of your tank? That is a crypt...sensitive to changes of condition and prefer low light..(that is what I got from the web...might be wrong as I don't keep crypts)
any idea why it is rotting? i exposed a little of the tuber already.

Err... Criniums are not crypts (Cryptocornye)... not supposed to melt.

Agree that Crinums are not crypts or belonging to the same family.
In my experience, newly planted Crinum tends to melt and grow new leaves similar to crypts. This is mainly caused by difference in water conditions. Just give it a chance to grow net leaves, and if they do they will be fine.
is the TUBER rotting or the leaves?
if it's the leaves, it's probably what has been mentioned
if it's the TUBER, i think you're supposed to expose the plant up to the crown
The leaves were rotting. The white portion below the leaves had reddish brown rotting spots also. I buried it deeper to hide more of the white portion instead. Now i think has some new leaves growing out from the centre part. The rotting white portion has gave way to expose new white portion below which is not rotting. Will keep you guys informed.
give it a bit of time... some bulb plants will lose their leaves and then after that sprout new leaves. So wait and see... however if the bulb itself is going then... no hope liao.
