hi everyone, just like to share - yesterday my adventurous spirit was high and i wc my cherry shrimp tank 50% and replaced water straight from the tap without adding anti-chlorine. to my surprise there was no casualty. only 1 small cherry shrimp 'fainted' in mid water and lay flat for 10 seconds, then swam back to life as normal. of course i had antichlorine standby in hand ready to throw into the tank

the sign that it even fainted, means that something.. i don't know what, but something is coming your way.

i just don't see the point of being adventurous and risking your cherry shrimp's life? don't all hobbyist should try by all means protect / keep their pets happy and alive?

jusst testing to see how little chemical we need to put into our tap water. sometimes in our daily routine we do alot of unnessary 'additions' in our lives just to make it normal . sometimes these additions are not necessary. we learn and test these areas. there are of course things that need consideration - that is i must have the luxury of time to enjoy and keep watch on them and make sure they are ok, keeping in mind the daily variable amount of chloramine in our water supply. anyway the test proved successful with all cherrys living happily ever after. thanks for your comments

How many cherry do you have now?

Like you said, since some additives like anti-cl is sometime not necessary and there is a daily variable amount of chloramine in your water. How would you know anti-cl is needed for today and not needed for tomorrow or it is needed for tomorrow and not needed for today?

Since you're speaking on a daily basis, then your 'test' is not valid statistically.

Have 10 separate tanks and change the water without adding any additives for each tank over 10 days, see what would happen

With such you are able to acheive a test results of ~90% confidence

relaxxx guys and gals - my reason for sharing this is so that if we can do with less chemicals the better. what i am trying to say is that sometimes its not necessary, then dont add.

i guess 100 babes from 4 mummy. from what i have done ie50% with 1 cherry 'fainting' , i would consider up to 25% safe trying. provided there is sufficient time to monitor the babes. if i have to go out immediately after wc then i would use anti-chlorine.

if you dont want to add chemicals then age your water and put in AC to deactivate the chloramine

Still quite a gamble to not add any kind of water treatment though.. chlorine MIGHT not be an issue if you at least let the water age for a day or two.. but chloramine is still present (at least in singapore water) so best to use something to treat both..

keep us posted on how your shrimps are doing!
