    Hei guys,

to those who are doing planted tanks, dosing ferts and uses substrates ferts, do you guys place carbon media or carbon pads in your filteration system? Because i am wondering whether the carbon pads will remove the fertilisers effectiveness...

usually it is not advisable to place activated carbon in planted tanks especially when dosing additives. The carbon will absorb these additives.

It is good to use reasonable amount of activated carbon during the first few weeks of setup. After that one usually would consider reducing the amount of activated carbon used, to eventually using none at all.

The carbon may absorb some of your ferts, but usually not all at once. May be considered important enough when a tank is just cycling, esp controlling ammonia spike and murkiness/tint in the water.

Recommended even more when one is using in conjunction with ADA AS.
