Hi bros, just curious what's happening.

    I have 2 x low-tech 1ft cube tanks, with following setup:
    - sharing a 2ft 55W PL light
    - ammano soil
    - never put any fert

This afternoon, I did a water test after months setting team up (plain lazy!). Realised PH is 6.0 So I added some sodium bicarbonate (didn't check PH after that).

Now I realised both tanks are bubbling like mad! That's pluzzing to me. Any enlightenment, please? Thanks!

    -Chee Keong.

Sodium bicarbonate with reaction to acidic water will release CO2, and that what plants like. So with abundance of CO2 and the right amount of light (and you have 55W for 1ft tank !!!) , the plant will start giving oxygen until saturation when you see bubbling.

    Well, tiny quantity doesn't harm.
I do use it as a quick fix for pH drops, but do not add it directly to the tank, always mix it to water and add gradually.

Interesting. Is it still bubbling as frequently after a few days?

ammano soil? Are you talking about ADA aquasoil? if yes then ph = 6 is normal. ADA have pH lowering capability. Your sodium bicarbonate should not have any effect after a while, I mean your pH should drop to 6 again until when Aquasoil exaust all its pH lowering capability

first of all, why do you want to inrease your pH? unless you have good reason, better just lets it be.
