The Blues at Polyart looks a bit like malayan, maybe I'm wrong, I'm not sure... so just wanted to verify.
Your Blues, are they really blue? or some have brownish/green? Malayans could be brownish too, right?
Anyone else? Any comments?
The Blues at Polyart... really the blue species and different from malayans?
if its jet black/dark brown and have a golden strip across its back.. im sure its malayan.
if im not wrong, real blue shrimp do not breed true.. so the shrimplets might not be blue too..
Thanks EvolutionZ...
Thought the Blue shrimps at Polyart look like Malayan, but not sure, so just wanted to verify. Have you seen them?
anyone else can confirm?
any experts dropping by Polyart - can help to take a look at the shrimps labelled "Blue Shrimps".. costs a gold coin each. Are they malayan indeed? thank you!
What is the scientific name for "Blue Shrimp"?
Is it Neocaridina sp. "blue" as per this website?

Which kind of shrimps would Blue crossbreed with?
Cannot find it in this table:

These are the "blue shrimp" I bought from polyart last week, not sure if they are the real blue shrimp but they do look very nice

Well, they don't look "blue" at all. Were they blue-ish when you bought them?
I'll try to take some pictures of the "Blue shrimps" (labelled as such) that I bought from C328. Some have a bit of red/brown too.
They look rather pale, not blue-ish. And that corner are too dark, tank are too small, hard to see or hand pick the nice one, I just pick some pregnant shrimps.
Guys! Mind sharing the price of the blue shrimp you guys got from Polyart or C328?![]()
To Love & To Forgive...
Whats great about these guys is that they can have different forms of coloration. Another good point is they are very hardy. Newborn shrimplets are able to take a 100% water change.
Condition seems to be a factor in their coloration. If they are stressed, they can change to blue/dark blue or even black. But thats only occurs when the shrimp are in the adult stage. For their shrimplets and young adults, the coloration is transparent bluish and brownish.
Well Im doing some crosses to other strains and see how it goes.
Spid, do you know which species the Blues will crossbreed with? I'm trying to avoid crossbreed, the opposite of yours. Mine look dark blue. But I saw a bright blue in another bag in the lfs the other day.
If Im not wrong, they should be neocardina in which will crossbreed with cherry, sakuras, yellows, snowballs.
I realised those dark blues or even blacks are weak and tend to die off too easily in tank. Thus i come to conclusion that these very blue ones are the one that are very stressed. Well, I may be wrong here.
Beetroot, just keep here updated about the breeding process.
Cheers.
The "Blue" shrimps from Polyart are indeed malayans. When I got them 2 months ago they were very deep blue. Now they all turned brownish with light tan line on their back and their offspring are all clear with spots malayans.
