Hi Roy,
Sounds great....looking forward to seeing your pics!
Really tempted to get MH lights....[]
eggz
After having added 2 MH lights to my 5 ft tank and adjusting the pH/KH/CO2 parameters to 10-25 ppm, my recently planted aquatic plants are bubbling like I've never seen before. My previous 3.5 ft never bubbled.
I've to thank the moderators and forumers for their informative posts, especially the thread on the relationships of pH/KH/CO2 in a planted tank.
Cheers![]()

Better beware the bubble burst ur tank.. haha (Joking)
Ya, I like to say they are great helpful people.![]()
Don't bother if its Black cats or White cats, so long as it can catch Rats. Its a Good Cat.
eggs, don't know if you still remember me. We bummed into each other when you were placing the order for your 4 ft tank at NA. Hey, I see you're quite an expert nowadays.
Anyway, DEA always rave about MH and now I see his point. Can't beat quality lights for the plants to perform photosynthesis. Was concern about MH heating up the tank but it hasn't been the case. On the contrary, my tank temperature is slightly lower now because light (heat) source is placed higher over the aquarium.
Another good thing about MH is I don't have to switch on my living room lights anymore and it's also providing illumination for my indoor plants []
Cheers,
Roy
TTL,
Yes, this's a great forum.

Hi Roy,
Haven't seen you around AQ for a while, so, you've been setting up a 5 footer with MH lights
I'm no expert, not even close but I've learned a lot of stuff from the AQ forums over the last few months, currently struggling with BBA outbreak []
About your lights, are they the 150W ones that DEA recommended? How many did you get, two? What is the shape and colour of the fixture? Getting really tempted, but expecting a kid real soon, need to save money for all the hospital and kid's stuff []
Anyway, for my 4 x 1.5 x 2ft will 1 x 150W be enough?

Eeeeps, just realised you've posted all the info in the equipment forum....
eggz
eggz, one additional info for you My MH lights are, as mentioned in the equipment forum, from commercial lighting shop. The MH bulbs aren't housed in outdoor floodlight housing but in 2 rather nice silverish pendant. Unlike the MH pendants sold in some aquarium shops, mine are rather large with 13" diameter at light emitting end. This works out quite nicely because light distribution is wider.
David, I'll try to borrow a digital cam from my friend and will post the pics when they're available.
Btw, what's the name of the plant you bought from Teo. The one with the red colouration - the very last plant you got before we left Teo? Also, the name of the plant with the long thin leafs - the one that's on the left corner of Teo's planted aquarium.
Thanks,
Roy
the feeling is very cool right?
it's bubbling like boiling water now as compared to before?
join the gang~!![]()
Hi Roy
The very last plant i bought from Teo is the Ludwigia Arcurata. This is a very nice plant.....On the left hand side of the big tank or the smaller one near the freezer?
If you are refering to the big one, are you talking about the Agonogeton Ulvaceus?...cos this one is not thin, its actually quite broad but the leaves get really long.....not a good choice of plant in your tank due to your MH unless below it are really low light plants like fern, moss, or cryptos.
Unless you are referring to Hygrophila Longifolia? This one you may want to get from Ah Tan of Bioplast coz i just bought some and the ones that Ah Tan has is very unique as the leaf blades are really thin and long as opposed to the ones I got from Teo

Thanks David. The scientific names don't make sense to me but I'll check the plants database. Just wanna know the names of the plants and their specific requirements.
Cheers,
Roy
if you want to check
try ludwidgia arcuata and hygrophila lacustris
david messed up a little on the names![]()
Teo doesnt have L. arcuata in his 9ft.. I think u referring to the E. stellata
thanks for the correction yimin[] ...simon its the left side of tank...E.Stellata on right side of tank

?? E.stellata at off center left of teo's tank... anyway
wat david bought from Teo is the L. brevipes
L. arcuata
arcuta has narrower leaves
DEA, the tank was like a cool can of 7-UP. Now the bubbling rate has subsided. Actually, the bubbling rate decreased after I added a new reactor and reduced the CO2 rate to 1-2 bps. Will re-take the pH/KH/CO2 reading in a short while and tweak accordingly.
Plants bubbling is not a requisite to enjoying a planted tank but it's really cool when it does!
Thanks,
Roy
Folks,
Thanks for the replies.
The last plant David bought at Teo, which I also bought some, may belong to the Ludwigia or Hygrophila family but I'm not exactly sure. Referencing Tropica plants database didn't help either because some of the painted pictures look quite similar.
As for the plant with long thin leafs, I don't think it's aponogeton ulvaceus. The ulvaceus has got wavy leafs. The one I bought from Teo actually looks like "lalang".
The best thing would be for me to take some pics.
Cheers,
Roy
