Would be good to boil the wood for 2 purpose.
- Allow it to absorb moisture
- Leech the tannin from the wood (to reduce the brownish water you will have)
Weight it with rock then for few weeks until it sink. Don't worry it will sink![]()
It will sink eventually...sometimes it could take up to a month but it will sink. trust me
what i head is that the brownish color wont harm your fish. just that maybe u will felt anoyed cause u cant seem to see the fish, and try to make sure what u had is drift wood, cause there are some lfs that sell other type of wood as drift wood
Just read from ADA oline aqua journal reagarding driftwood:
" It is not necessary to boil or pour hot water on Old Black Wood from the tropics to remove tannin. It should never be boiled as a matter of fact since the natural resin in the driftwood seeps out like black tar and becomes unmanageable."

great find Shadow. gives a new perspective to what some of us believes in.
I thought when you boil to get the resin to seep out into the boiling water and then you pour the water away and the wood should be ok? Why would you want to manage resin in boiling water? Isn't that why people boil? Or am I getting the meaning of the sentences wrong?

You are welcome to asked Amano
Would he mean once seep out it become unmanageable even in normal cold water?
will it still be ok to boil the wood in water if there's plant growing on it?
You could also try tying fishing weights to the wood like what blue33 did.![]()
