The Emperor is Nematobrycon palmeri. The one I want is different :

    a) metallic bluish scale on the body
    b) red line instead of blue of the anal fins
    c) reddish and red outline in caudal fin
    d) red eyes instead of blue
    and some minor differences

Last time when I first kept them I used to think they are the same but once acclimated to our tank, the fish is a real jewel.

Also the reason price very different.

Yeap, N. lacortei is not as readily available. N. palmeri that is more readily available has a blue iris.

Orion, how long ago was it since you last seen them?

The last time I kept them was about 3 to 4 years ago from a LFS in Bukit Timah shopping centre. (Plaza or S.C?)

That shop always had exotic fishes and also the reason that got me into freshwater aquarium hobby.

Guess good things and times never last long, the shop was closed down some time ago.

Yeah very beautiful fish, N. lacortei one of my favourite tetras.
Those recently spotted ones are N. palmeri which is not as pretty.
Haven't seen them for years now.
Last bought them at the LFS in BeautyWorld shopping centre too.

There is actually a way to get them..

Get a lot of forumers here to make a big fuss, then the supplier see the thread...who knows maybe next Sat the fish will come.

Sadly I missed this LFS in that location at Beauty world.

Come again - the good old days where I can leisurely look at fishes in the shop and not being pressurised to buy. Too missed the nice chat with the boss about this hobby.

Not sure. But if LFS is at Suntec I think I'll give it a pass.
