David, the yamatos will practically eat moss whenever they have the chance to. especially any fine-leaved plants. i've seen how they've stripped the moss down to the bare strands whenever there's no other alternative food source.

if there is no algae on the moss, alternatively you can use algae wafers to feed them for now unless you are going to take them out

Haha! I think there's some confusion about the Rosy Barbs & Cherry Barbs.
I read up from some sites tat Cherry Barbs eat Hair Algae. While others say Rosy Barbs Does the Job.
But i do remembering Nature Aquarium (book 1) by Takashi Amano saying tat Cherry Barbs Eats Them... So i very sure tat its Cherry.

One thing to note is that sometimes algae eaters like yamato and SAE will not touch algae which is "matured" i.e. in large clumps... mebbe its something to do with the texture... who knows?

Anyway, when I had a previous outbreak of hair algae, my algae eaters didn't do much... it wasn't until I tore of some off the algae that I noticed them "sniffing about" the affected plants...

Just curious, have your algae eaters been in the tank while the outbreak took place, or did you introduce them to take care of the algae outbreak after it happened?

    Juz speculation...

Algae eater like shrimps tend to feed on rotting or dying leaves which may explains why you see them munching on plants.

OK given that thats the situation, then my advice is this...

    1) trim off the leaves which are heavily infested with algae...
    2) if you can manually remove any algae, do so.
    3) Do a measure of your NO3... it would be good to know if your tank is N limited.
    4) could you post a pic of the algae? Hair algae could mean a lot of things. either that or describe the algae in detail... a pic is still prefered though

    Hi there,

Kind of agree with the above statement. My shrimps of all type tiger, cherry, taiwan, yamatos and even my otos will tend to start feed on my dying plant leaves.

    Just sharing

Yes I think what you have is filamentous hair algae... remove what you can mechanically with your hand, comb, or toothbrush. Then leave the little bits that you can get out to your barbs to eat
