I am thinking of setting up a 1-2 feet tank outside the corridor with strong afternoon sun may be a around 2-3 hours.

With some frogbit and salvinia but with no filter and light.
Will add some water plant fertiliser.
Do you think it can survive and thrive well ?

If now what else I need to add?

Hmm.... Will 2-3 hours of direct sunlight cause green water (algae boom)?

So do you mean the tank is just to house 2 plants (frogbit & Salvinia) & no intention of putting in any livestocks (fishes)? Concerns as bro Z_Z... Mozzies...

Maybe add in a few pieces of fish (that are able to take high temperature & does not require much care... Guppies??)

    Regards.

    Yes, mozzy alert. Thanks.
Was actually thinking of adding one or two betta inside.
Would betta or guppy be better ?

I think betta will do well for an out in open tank with little or no water circulation. The floating plants will compliment their behaviour well.

Do consider making water changes regularly though.

Is water circulation necessary for the floating plants?

How often do you recommend for water change ?

I thought just leave it there, top up water, add fertilizer that's it.

You can keep the setup simple. Just top up water from evaporation.
I have done something similar with my betta. See pics at http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=22668

The water change is to prevent bad stuff fr building up since u dun have a filter and will be dosing fert. Maybe a 30-50% change every fortnight? Shouldn't be too much work for a 1-2 feet tank.

Do add a fauna to prevent mozzie, guppy or a more hardy betta. A weekly wc is still needed. Overall it can still be done as my Dad has been keeping a couple of tanks like this along his corridor and we don't have direct sunlight.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Yes it is working and they are growing in the tank, though do not have direct sunlight, but should have enough UV as there are heat around that area.

Constantly checking on the water for mozzies though. So far so good.
