Flash used? Lighting seems harsh esp 2nd and 3rd, while 1st and 2nd the foreground is quite distracting. With common bugs like grasshoppers, take your time to approach very slowly and find a good angle.
I would hope the photo-forum won't become like the you-pat-my-backside-i-pat-yours of some other forums though.
I think most of the nits are covered by Budak. Just want to add my 2 cents. The details for the hoppers can be brought out a bit by adding a bit of fill flash. And I think the pictures looks a bit too yellow.

yup... i dont know if its my eyes and the effect of the flower or not but i agree with luenny that its a bit yellow.
Not only deos the flower distract from the main subject of the picture but it also cast certain hues on the subject when taken.
overall quite sharp though...![]()
well done, vast improvement over the last time![]()

Thanks guys for you kind comments. Realized that shooting insects is a bit more dynamic compared to shooting fish. In the environment, you are at the mercy of the elements
Noted with thanks on all comments. No flash, I didn't want to be weigh down by another piece of equipment. It was bright and sunny this time. I do agree that a bit of fill flash might help bring out the subject. And because it was bright and sunny, I can only take them from a certain direction.
Yes, I realized that there is a colour cast from the flower only when I saw the pic on the computer. Attempted to remove it in one of them with PS liao, but apparently still not good enough.
Moral of the story:
- Monopod helps getting sharp pictures.
- Beware of colour casts.
- composition with flashy colours distract from subject.
- Fill flash helps when used appropriately.
- Checking exposure with histogram saves you post processing headache later.
I hope not too. Learn more from critical reviews isn't it? And I hope more post more photos for critic.

bright and sunny days should be good for fill flash (whether onboard or onshoe).... if you are in Aperture Priority, set the f-stop to get the DOF you want... e.g. f11-16.... then the cam will meter accordingly and provide a little burst of light to show detail without blackening out everything else.
