    hi,
i planted some downoi in my small tank with ada soil.
unfortunately didn't know it came with a complimentary com of small snails.
as i didn't soak it with pp or anything before adding.
later saw some enjoying themselves on the leaves.
added a small puffer (those $1/- ones), and an oto.

but the next day all leaves gone, and of course the downoi went to plant heaven.

now i am not sure which of the above is the killer of my downoi.
    can anyone offer an opinion?
    thnks.

hmmmm, downoi tends to melt off on its own when newly planted. Perhaps that is what happened? Or maybe the puffer chewed on the leaves while trying to get the snails

It is quite likely that the downoi melted. How old is your tank? Do you have any base fertilizer added into your tank?

    Regards

    right, noobie here.
think you are probably right because the leaves just wilted like that.
probably accused the wrong guys as the incident occured the next day i put in the puffer and the oto.
    thnks guys.

Can anyone suggest how to prevent this meltdown, since every downoi i put inside for ever will be newly planted and i hope this won't happen again cos it is quite expensive to go on forever.
by the way, my tank is more than 2 months old, but only 1ft size.
my light is PL 18 watts x2. so if 3wpg, should i add more wattage.
the temp is 25 degree as it is in an air con room.
    thnks

downoi is known to melt when planted improperly in acidic substrates like ada soil. To counter that, it's recommended to plant it with only the roots touching the soil and not the stem. If the stem touches the soil, the plant will melt.

actually because there were many stems with small roots for the 3 downoi, the stems were definitely out of the ada soil, and even some of them with roots hanging in the water, but alas, now all go to plant heaven.
    will try again.
    thnks

    hi,
can please ellaborate on what is submerged?
does it mean that they are already with the roots in the cotton wool that comes in a small basket?
i bought it at c328 in a small basket. Is this considered the submerged type?
    thnks

Is the downoi big size? From my personal experience, I have one downoi floated and caught itself at one of the plants. Takes me a while to find it. If it is small, it is likely that it is stuck somewhere. Otherwise, it can really be melted.

not too sure, but bought it at clementi.
think should be considered big for downoi, if what i know abt downoi is right, they are usually not too tall, and think mine should be adult size already.
anyway all have gone up to downoi heaven already.
    too late.
will try again though, but this time will follow bro advice to only bury the root carefully.
    thnks all.
