    Hi guys,

i was feeding a bit of Hikari Algae Wafer to my new whiptails when i noticed tat the Yamatos also went to feed a bit on them... after awhile I noticed that they started twitching around the tank like as if they are dying. It happened since last night and although most of them are still surviving albeit still twitching around the tank or lying on its back twitching, 1 have already died.

it seems not all fish food are shrimp friendly.... anyone have any comments?

Waaa....don't scare me...i just drop a small piece inside my CRS tank....thought the wafers suppose to be safe? Anyway like to ask if you got wash your hands before feeding? Maybe im paranoid but i make sure my hands are clean before feeding anything because my shrimps happen to be famous for being weaklings and super sensitive to lots of things...

CRS are very sensitive but i dont think yamatos are that sensitive. For example, somefish food like Momizi or something like that name has copper in the ingredients which we know are harmful to shrimps in particular. Once all my cherries died after eating the Momizi food.

So I dont know if the Hikari has any although I cant see any copper based ingredients listed.

From what i know they do not have copper based ingredients inside the algae wafers but i think the orange pack hikari may have...not sure though. Hope your remaining shrimps make it bro..all the best...think i better get and feed excel only for my CRS.

Hikari stuff dont cause issues to fauna, much like the algae waffers. Unless of course your's expired. I usually throw mine when i see a slight discoloration from the usual green.

You mean the yamatos are new to your tank? if thats the case then it may not be the wafers bro. Example if i do a large water change, do feeding and if my shrimps died i cant just blame it on the food right? The yamatos could have been stress while on the way to your place. Theres too many possibilities and i feel you should not jump to conclusion especially your yamatos are new to your tank. What bro evo mention also true, wait get sued....
Anyway hope you wont have any more deaths..all the best...

maybe bro patricc and freshfish should compare their source of this Hikari Algae Waffers to determine if both came from the same batch..

Think most of us have been feeding Hikari Algae Waffers with good result, however, I believe most of us had been feeding with an older batch.

Therefore, IMHO the issue we should looking into:

    1. Is there other factors that causes the death instead?
    2. Is this a real Hikari brand product?
    3. Is this an isolated case of contanminanted batch?
    4. Is the contanminantion only for this batch?
    5. Since bro freshfish bought as a loose pack, does the contanminantion happen after the re-packing?
    6. Is there other bros that you just bought the product and feed their fish/shrimps?
Hopefully we can find out the real problems before more fishes and shrimps are lost...

Warmest Regards from Merviso aka Merv Soh
