I went to C328 yesterday and saw that there is a new type of crab for sale. The carapace was mainly red with a black area in the middle of the carapace near the frontal margin. This one is really very interesting and I doubt that it had appeared for sale in Singapore before. Preliminary investigation seems to suggest that it might be a real 'Potamon' species from the Indian Continent. It is also really expensive.

thanks for the tipoff. I was deciding whether to spend $ on this one or its bigger cousins at jumbo seafood.

It seems to prefer cool waters. I am excited about this crab but I am known to be crazy about crabs, so please do not emulate my craziness!

Maybe. Two molted in my tanka and one died and that went promptly into alcohol. The other one surprisingly survived the molting process. At that time, each went for 3 red notes. I think it is cheaper now.

Thxalot for Your words. I'm one the three "makers" of Panzerwelten.de (which could be freely translated as "Shell-worlds"). Since I found this thread I'd like to offer help in "crab questions". I don't know yet how often we can keep an eye on this board here, since we don't have much time left and are present in some other boards. But on Panzerwelten I opened an English section, because we want to give information for as many crab keepers as possible and want to share our knowledge.

Do You mean the one which is shown here http://www.crusta10.de/templates/ind...g_id=1&katid=1 (just below the middle)? I found out just yesterday it could be Stoliczia bella – but I'm not exactly sure yet (that's why I didn't edit the picture on Crusta10 yet).

IF so, it is terrestrial and digs burrows near fast flowing streams on Pulau Langkawi. P.K. Ng says they are not aggressive and can stay long out of the water but are "subsceptical to high temperature".

Hm, to be honest: Help with what? I can see there at least four Cardisoma armatum which are LAND crabs – luckily they can at least survive in water and don't drown. But they really need a real land part and one (!) of 'em should be kept in at least a one meter Aquaterrarium. An aquarium with a fw woods to get above the water surface really isn't good for them.

Here http://www.panzerwelten.de/forum/sho...d.php?tid=1012 we have a short description where all important infos about this "patriot crab" are listed. Maybe it is helpful for You.

    Re: Pure land crab setup?

No problemo – as I said they don't drown so for a few weeks it is possible to keep 'em that way. But for a longer term You should change the setup a little bit.

    Re: Pure land crab setup?

yea i did. i sold all of them away and bought a pair of Geosesarma notophorum. added more substrate to make sure that 1/3 of the tank has pure dry substrate land. plus i added moss as well for them to nimble on. as for the water area i just put some tetras.

    Re: Pure land crab setup?

i have 5 crabs in my vivarium and yes, they do need both dry land and water. the water i provided is slightly brackish though, i read that its best that way.

basically you can use huge rocks to keep most of the sand or gravel on one side cos when the crabs move around they really mess it up, not to mention their burrowing habits. i also added a few bigger pieces of wood stacked up on a rock to let them climb around.

basically, they are fine in freshwater, but not healthy in the long run. add a little aquarium salt.

    Re: Pure land crab setup?

    Hi trece

The crabs which come from Indonesia to the LFS, namely the Geosesarma sps require fresh water not brackish. Do show a picture of your crabs.
These crabs are land crabs and are quite easy in terms of care.

As for Geosesarma notophorum, I think they prefer land to water. Land area should be more so that they can find places to hide and/or burrow.

Do refer to Panzerwelten English section on their care.
    There can only be ONE

    Re: Pure land crab setup?

hey, my aquarium setup is in one of my recent threads.
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=54243

they do burrow in the dry area and as for the crabs.. i have 3 Neosarmatium and 2 Cardisoma. they seem to be very happy together.
