Hello, can some experts advise on what is the most ideal dimension of a shrimp tank? Is it better to have it tall? Or rather is should be long and wide?

I think you should get a long and wide rather than a tall tank becos shrimp are bottom dweller anyway its not a planted tank, why you need the height for...another thing is if you get a tall tank you might to need to get a higher walts lightset for the lights to hit the bottom..higher walts=higher temperture..

    Just my two cents comment.

Just to share. As for me, I would say it all depend on the quantity of shrimps that's going to stay in. If its like 10+ for the moment, I'll house them in a 10" or 12" lenght at least.

Depends very much on the sensitivity of the shrimps. For cherries, they're rather adaptive and won't go into shock easily.... I've tried nano tank. If you're considering critters like crs, at least a 2ft would be better. Much easier to control and maintain the parameters. In a nano tank, a little change is too much and would reflect to fast...

Thanks all for the advice. Is it right to say that shrimp tank need not be planted. The mosses are there just to provide food and hiding place?
    What is their natural habitat?

When talking about shrimps, many aquarists forget that there are shrimps that grow big (e.g. over 10cm).

Therefore, it would be better to refer to specific species as different species have different requirements, and others would be able to provide specific advices.

What dwarf shrimp species are you looking at?

It's a personal choice. If you are a breeder, you may choose not to go with a planted tank as you will be dealing mainly with water parameters and shrimp food.

However if you are a regular hobbyist looking forward to a relaxing view of your shrimps foraging for food, nothing much can beat shrimps in a natural looking planted tank.
