bro, don't think you should jump to conclusions so quickly about the hikari wafers.

have you done anything to your tank recently? water change? change of filter equipment, etc? are the fishes new to the tank? (just saw that you bought a few panda cories in another thread)

I fed my corry, yamato, malayan, sakura and Otos with hikari algae wafer and nothing happen. I doubt because of hikari algae wafer, unless tainted by melamine

test kits are an initial item in aquarium. Do a check on the water conditions at least fornightly. Less feed doesn't mean low bio load. There could be other factor. Do a check regularly, I am sure your fish will be fine.

I doubt fresh hikari algae wafer will kill your pandas. I have a few pandas at home that has gone through a few packets of hikari together with my discus, sakura, CRS, and other cories. I don't really know what you mean by loose packets but opening them up can cause them to go bad. Fresh hikari algae wafer should be hard and should break like a biscuit when you bend them - ie. you should hear a crack sound when they break. If it doesn't feel that way, it's probably been expose to water. They come with those resealable zipper but I usually pour some out to a small bottle and feed from there. That way, the rest can stay fresh inside the original packaging longer.

That maybe the answer to your problem. by the way how do you know it is Hikari algae wafer? because I saw no brand wafer which look like the same as Hikari algae wafer.

The best is buy new, as lunney said it is hard and crispy like biscuit. If open too long I'm afraid funggus start growing and might kill your fish (not sure whether fungus poison to the fish or not). I put pack of silica gel to absorb the moisture.

You know where your mistake lies. Fortunately Hikari's brand name and reputation is strong enough to withstand such "hasty and misguided" conclusions.

It amazed me that you chose to blame Hikari when you didn't even buy an original pack of the algae wafer. Anyway do a little more investigation of your own in future before posting such "controversial" threads.
    Yours Truly, Avan

I went into the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life... to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
