Hi all, this is my one and only tank, a 3ft set-up in my living room. I tend to watch the tank a lot more than the television anyway.

I don't know much about technical details, but as far as I know here are the stats.
    Lighting: 4 X T5 bulbs
Filter: Canister type for up to 200litres
Substrate: 1 bag of aquarium soil, 4 small bags of black gravel
Plants: I can't identify them all but as far as I know, Cabomba, Sword leave, Java fern (I would appreciate any help in identification!)
CO2: CO2 tank with solenoid and timer
Fish: Cardinals, Rummy-nose, Rams, Red-Tail sharks, T.Espei, Black neon, Loaches, Ottos, CAE, Golden Pencilfish, Rainbow Badis, Corydora

I've had this set-up for 3 months now. Upgraded from a 2ft set-up which I transferred and build upon.

I had a problem with hair/fuzz/thread algae, but after revamping my tank about a month ago it seems to have disappeared after I gave my plants some bleach treatment. Not all the plants survived though. AND the algae seems to be making a comeback. Trying to nip (literally) the problem now by plucking what I see.

I used to see a lot of bubbling but not anymore and its disappointing! I'm hoping the plants just need some time to root down again. They seem healthy enough, I'm just not seeing any photosynthesis...

Any comments and suggestions would be much appreciated!

Ha ha... if only my "TREE" is in your tank. My tank only 1.5ft really too small.

You mean your bogwood with the moss is it? Its very nice. But I don't have a cooling system so I'm not confident of keeping moss alive. Otherwise I will plant already. Tried before but they turned brown and just collected debris after two months or so.

Right I think I've identified some of the plants in my tank. The main plant I used for the 'background' are water sprites and I have a few stringy bunches of rotalas scattered at various points.

Thanks Shadow! Any idea what it is though? Need to have a talk with my LFS guy then since he sold it to me! What a shame, I thought it made a pretty good centrepiece.

    Update

Thanks to the great help of Shadow, I've found out the plant I had in the foreground is indeed not an aquatic plant but is commonly sold as one. Buyer beware, it goes by the names of peacock fern and umbrella fern amongst others.

So anyway, inspired by the numerous scapes I've seen on the forum, I decided to try growing HC in the foreground instead. Managed to buy one small patch at my LFS and now I'm hoping real hard they stay down and not get disturbed by my fishes.

    Some pics attached!

Can anyone advise me as to how to clean my tank now that I am waiting for HC to root down? I used to be quite rough, just sucking up the gravel using a gravel cleaner. Can't do that now I suppose. Help anyone?

use your hands to create some current on the substrate. that will cause the debris to float, then just syphon them out
