Hi, I have this brown coloured shrimp which came with my cherry shrimps. it looks very similar in shape to cherry shrimp but its brown in colour. Recently it got eggs and gave birth to shrimplets. I seperated the brown coloured shrimp out in fear that those are cherry shrimps in their wild form and I didnt want to mix them with my cherry shrimp in case cross breeding may degrade the colour of my cherries. However, what i also suspect it could be a malayan shrimp.

My question is, how do you tell a wild cherry shrimp from a malayan shrimp? is wild cherry shrimp colourless or brown in colour? if it is a malayan shrimp, does it cross breed with cherry?

Anybody who knows please share your views. Thanks!

it is very very hard to differentiate a wild cherry and a malayan.

the best way is to see whether the brown shrimp has a light brown strip in the middle of its back. if it has , it is most likely a malayan. however, this method is also not entirely foolproof as some cherries have the stripe too, though the possibility is quite low.
if the shrimp is a malayan, it will not breed with your cherries.
