I am keeping some cherries and CRS in a tank with hairgrass and HC, they are doing fine but not breeding.
    Heard that shrimps prefers moss.

    my question
    1. possible to keep and breed shrimps with hairgrass and HC?
    2. is it better to use moss instead of plants for shrimp tank?
    3. Any recommendations on what kind of moss to use?

    Thanks!

I don't see a problem on not having moss. Though the critters prefer moss but I believe that is because moss trap food and can feast on it later. I'm not too sure whether moss provides more security for them to breed better. Between moss or plants, both seem to have the same effect to me.

It should be possible if the plants are dense enough for the berried shrimps & shrimplets to use as a hideouts for any potential dangers. However, I think the water parameters are of more importance to enable breeding...

Moss is ideal mainly because it is less demanding than most plants & it grows rather easily. However, I do have a tank (mainly crypts) where my shrimps (Cherries, Sakuras & Taiwan shrimps) are breeding well currently.
    3. Any recommendations on what kind of moss to use?
Personally it's up to you. Different moss have different requirements (some need cooler water than others; some grows slower etc). Even the same kind of moss will grow differently in different tanks with different water parameters... Personally, I prefer using Spiky & Java as they are rather easy to keep & grow...

    Thanks!
    Hope the above helps!

Encouraging that hear that your shrimps are thriving in a crypt tank, well done beetlejuice!
I will now focus on my water parameters.
