hello juggler,
i have that problem too. i think the plant is just shedding its old leaves. not a deficiency.
hope this helps.

Wondering why do holes appear in the Lotus leaf as shown. It tends to appear in the older ones.
Is it because of K deficiency? I diligently add 30ppm K every week.

KF,
Check your N level? I mentioned in another thread about the redness of plants and nitrates being interlinked... anyway, another factor linked with this is that these leaves which redden from low N tend to die of faster as well...
Allen
KF,
Do you find that the leaf becomes unusually bright red before the whole appears? I usually remove the leaf before the melting begins.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
For mine, when the leaves get unusually red, it means the stem has started rotting already.
juggler, I would say OLD AGE![]()
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Could be. The new leaves are a darker red compared to the bright red melting ones.----------------

Looks like no cause for alarm. Similar to pock marks we get when we grow old too.
Allen: My tank is NO3 heavy. So is not N deficiency.
I am starting another thread to discuss about Hygrophilia species.

Juggler,
I have the same problem as you and I was suspecting that it could be the result of 'old age' as only those 'older' leaves tends to rot/have holes on the leaves...

My lotus drop old leaf too.
I saw somewhere about emerge plant that lack of P will result in redness/brown.
what is the lifespan for a lotus leaf?
Juggler, is your lotus a new addition to your tank? I have the same prob recently when I introduce my lotus a month ago. one by one the leaves developed holes and the stalks dissolved. After a month, it has sent out 4 new leaves - strong and healthy looking. So far no problem, but will check on them regularly. My NO3 is low, so maybe N is not a problem.
I have it inside there for over a month. It has grown from a skinny plant with brownish leaves to be more robust and bigger redder leaves. I think maybe the old leaves tend to develop holes, as fellow forumers suggest. Thanks. Cheers!----------------
