    Seriously. How green is it?

I have a 4ft tank. The thickness of the glass is 0.8cm.
If I switch on the lights and view from the side, the tank has a green tinge.
If I view it from the front, it is there as well but lesser. With a black
background, it appears clear. If the tank lights are off, it seems clear as
    well.
However water from the tank put into a clear container does not appear greenish
    at all.

I have seen Nature's tank that appears greenish as well. Even at some other LFS,
they have certain tanks that look clear from the front (against background) but
greenish from the side. There are however quite a number of tanks that look
    clear on every side.

My conclusion is the iron content of the glass used and the thickness as well.
For one, I'm certain my glass is of high iron content since the edge appears
    very green.

My water is green due to the liquid fert I use...JBL ferropol is green in colour...Plants are growing very well...not having problems after dropping Dr Mallick's fert for a while...guess I don't really like mix and match style of fert...one problem after another is not my cup of tea. []

Peter, I would be very worried if your water is green due to the ferts you use... I've not used ferropol, but I seriously doubt ferropol will be able to color an entire tank's water green (if dosed according to instruction).

most of the glass tanks u see out there have greenish tints. it's very common. in fact, i'v been searching high n' low for high index glass to custom make tanks so they won't have greenish tints.

this is so that i can take pictures of my plants n' fishes with the right color balance.

anyone got lobangs for high-index or tintless glass?

No problems here allen...maybe its the greenery of the plants that is causing all those false green water signs...I took a cup of water from the tank...not green...just a bit yellowish...LOL []

Mineral glass is available at an very high cost. Some marine guys are using an alternative. Check the marine threads or the local reef sites.

Right color balance cannot be achieve without strobes. Specialist plant lights (FL, PL, MH etc) all have color temperature at specific K, which will tint your photos with the respective color.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

My tank also got a very greenish look. Now that I changed the FL tube to Phillips, it look less greenish. I was using Arcadia FL tudes before.

    PS: Spelling for Arcadia, correct?

Hmm, you guys brought up a real good point. Since the green tinge is only
very prominent if my lights are on, they could be aggravating the tinge
of the glass. FYI, I'm using Osram 36W PL tubes (6500K).

for digital cameras, use custom colour balance (with a grey card thingy) to cancel out the tints
