Hi, need advice from expect here about java moss. Thinking of keeping java moss (heard it was quite hardy) for my 4ft discus tank. Wonder will it last. My temp is AROUND 30-31degree, light On 24/7. Any advice?

Does discus feed on plants? If not the moss will surely thrive, java moss are tough!

i think java moss is a no brainer.
no need co2 or fertiliser other than the fish waste.
just a FL will be ok for them.
    even i can grow them.
just put them in and turn on the light for half a day and you are done.
    all the best.

Bro, have been on 24/7 for 2 yrs already, so far ok , water never go green. Water go green is it because of the plants ? algae? or any other factor? if bare tank, will it go green?

When water goes green it's a sign of free floating algae in the water due to excess light and/or nutrients. If you don't have it you don't need to worry. but still maybe you could lower your lighting to 8 hours?

ya, will consider of lower the light , maybe will off it for a hours or two daily. Sometime wake up middle of the night, the light help as it brighten the living room, so there not a needs to ons any light in the living room.

why don't you use a timer to off the light at your desired time.
i use it for a 10 hour schedule and it is very convenient for me.
think the timer quite cheap and saves a lot of "on and off" on your part.
    cheers.

Java moss ? No need to worry about lighting. They will do well in most low tech setup.

Actually...if you on the lights 24/7 for your Discus tank, dont think will have algae because I am sure you change your tank water very frequently is it??

Also maybe you dont feed them dried food but frozen foods or live foods is it?

But one thing for sure, you can save electricity bills if you were to maintain your lights to just 8 to 10 hrs a day...hehehe

ya i change my water quite frequently, once a week or 2 week one time. Feeding on frozen food only. Infact I have 9 discus, 12 tiger barb, 5 ottos, 3 tatra. Use to off the light when keeping 'lauhan' fish last time, but when I turn on the light, the fish got frighten and turn black, from that onward, i never trust in turing light off and On daily. Will just leave it turn ON all the way 24/7.

Electricity billl is not a big problem yet, cos I only have one tank at home. Unless I got few tanks then of cos bill is part of the problem. Found it not really cost that much on electricity bill.
