Took a day off work today to rescape my 422 discus planted tank. The plants weren't adapting too well to the conversion from high tech to low tech so I decided to just introduce low-requirement plants in and restart the whole system while maintaining the low-tech parameters.

here's what it looks like now:

Hoping for the Hygrophilla difformis in the background to grow taller and provide a nice bushy background. To the right, there are Cryptocoryne wendtii "green gecko" plantlets in the background. They need to grow out too and provide a contrast to the Cryptocoryne wendtii "tropica". The right side is going to be a "Wendtii corner" with 3 variants of Cryptocoryne wendtii there (Mi-oya is the last one). Hopefully there will be enough contrast and height difference to create an eye-catching corner

    Hi,

I like the way you arrange those plants with the bog wood. Nice setup.

    Cheers!

Yixiang, its a bit empty at both ends of the tank, maybe you can add more stem plants.

left side was deliberately left empty as the filter outlet is very strong. the right side will hopefully grow into a Cryptocoryne wendtii variant garden (3 variants). It looks empty now because the "Green gecko" i ordered from C328 were mere plantlets upon arrival i'm trying to avoid stem plants as much as possible due to the low tech nature of this setup

    Well done, Yi Xiang!

You are a much better aquascaper than I am. I'm still a farmer.

I like the hardscape, very sound foundations. Though the thing I find a little too big is the nanas, if smaller a bit and your ferns thicker a bit then I think it will make it look even better. But of course thats just my 2 cents.

Keep us updated on this scape.

thanks for the feedback calvin The ferns will hopefully grow thicker in time. I agree on the Nanas being too large. Once they are established I intend to trim the larger leaves back and let new ones grow out

    wow very nice tank bro...
may i know what temp is it kept in?
i always thought discus needed a very clean tank... bare in most cases....
and the high temp they need to be kept it made it hard for planted tank....
new to this hobby so hope to gain some insight

Wow old thread! This tank has become a jungle due to lack of time...the Hygrophila difformis has overtaken the tank...and the crypts are still very very low

I'll try and trim and update sometime soon!

discus are breeding in there weekly pity the stress of a community tank means that the eggs will get eaten...either by the parents of ravenous tetras

haha that's cool... guess it's simpler this way... won't have to deal with a horde of fries but may i know the parameters of that tank? do you do water changes frequently?
oh and those huge leaves in the bogwood are.....? can't be nanas right?

    Need to ask you...

What do you feed your discus with? I am really contemplating to add a pair of discuses into my 4x2x2.

Wow, just saw this. Nice tank YX. Yeah, pity the fries won't get to grow up. I had discus breeding in comm tank before too. The eggs hatch but as soon as the fries start to swim, they're gone.

Water changes are extremely infrequent. Target is once every 6 weeks, but it's been more like once every 2-2.5 months

Haha mine don't even hatch...they lay the eggs and guard for a few days before devouring....a few days later eggs are laid again
