Just curious how to maintenance those fine sand inside the tank? After time, it will collect dirt and waste, do we need take them all out and wash them?![]()

i checked with NA and mr chan say he didn't stock them too..
anyway, i find that the c328's fine river sand very very dirty. i washed for about 20 - 30 times.. but still slightly dirty.. decided to use for my tank.. after filling up with water.. gosh.. cloudy tank..
one of the cory sniffed and dug in abit and a line of yellow cloudy particles float away.. i guess i will need to find the sudo bottom sand to cover up the 328 sand.

hee hee just set up the tank only .. no livestock in it yet.
planning to try out apisto...... setting up a amazon biotope tank..
it is so fine that if you were to pour the sand into water instead of pouring water onto the sand, the sand can actually form bubbles of sand by trapping air in water coated sand.... chim right..?
bottom line is, very very very very fine. the finest i have ever felt, almost powder like. pro is corydoras will love it, con is if got bigger catfishes or flowrate is too high, the sand will definitely be whipped up into the filter intake. other sand will be shifted, but this sand will FLY. only suitable for cories which gently tap n dig.
ONLY Blue Zebras.

Maintenance is difficult by the fact that they are light in colour. So dirt is pretty obvious and unsightly on the sand.
It will be good if you could control the water flow in the tank such that it's strong enough to blow the dirt off the sand, and at the same time keeping the sand in place.

Seems pretty hard to achieve! So i guess with all the 'flying sand' its a big nono for a bottom dwellers tank?

Hmm... Isn't there a Crystal Orange sand from Sudo that is slightly larger size? Said to be suitable for plants, so it may be good for larger bottom dwellers (Corydoras too) as well?
Anyone using it and is it really orange in colour?![]()
Er... I would say course sand. Light orange.
ck

looks alittle like Lapis sand.. just that its a little orangy.
anyone know where to get 1kg sudo bottom sand?
and.. how do i acctually maintain the sand? just stir the sand while doing WC?
Reviving an old topic, has anyone used Sudo fine sand for planted tanks?
sam | Any bucephalandra fans out there? PM me!

There's always a work around.
Sudo bottom sand has no nutrients for the plants.
So you need to supplement with tablet fertilizers or similar.
Stem plants should be okay with water column dosing though

Yes I am using it in the front of my tank for my lialeopsis. I read that Lialeopsis likes very fine substrate. So trying it out.
First of all, i am sorry to dig up such an old thread. Just want to find out what will be suitable for a 2x1.5x1.5ft tank if i wan to form about 0.5-1" thick of sand? 1kg or 5kg pack of Sudo Bottom sand?
By the way, I have tried getting beach sand from ECP and rinse them a few times till water is clear and use it in a 1ft tank. The dwarf puffer in which i placed in that tank seems to be fine even after 1 week. So, i was thinking if beach sand can be used for long term? Will be keeping mainly bottom dwellers such as cory and clown loach.

Don't take sand from the beaches, you could get in trouble with NParks or NEA. Also generally not recommended because you don't know what pollutants or toxins might be present in the sand, changing your substrate after you've got the tank up and running is non-trivial..
ooo...taking sand from the beach can get me in trouble with Nparks and NEA? Pardon my ignorance, but i thought those sand are from nature so i just took some home since i was there that day. Haha. Anyway, i am thinking that since i need quite an amount of sand for my 2ft tank, i will just go buy it since it does not cost that much anyway.

If you are looking for fine river sand. I bought mine from Qian Hu farm all the way in the west. It was about 8 dollars for a 5kg bag of it. It's very fine stuff, but I would recommend you watch out for the PH level cause mine swung in the alkaline direction when I first used it. I only was able to bring it back to my desired 6.8 with some chemical treatment.
Becareful when buying though. They have fine pale beige and some slightly darker beige sand. Apparently the light beige sand is from beaches and hence is naturally more alkaline than the dark beige stuff which is supposed to be river sand.
