Hello, an update shot of my shrimplets.

After the birth of my shrimplets, noticed that there are a couple more CRS mamas. Can anyone help with the following questions:

    1. Are these females carrying fertilised eggs already. I always thought they are. But yesterday I saw a few males gathering around a pregnant female, and one was even on top of it. so I am puzzled ?? At that time, all the males were in a frenzy after some CRS moulted.

    2. Can someone tell me what is the grades of these two mamas. Because I need to tell the buyer the grade if I do sell the shrimp offsprings.

    Some other CRS macroshots.

Male do not mate females by riding on top of them. They finish the process by having their abdomen stick close to the females one which will last for a few seconds. Thats how all shrimps/crays/lobsters mate. The scene in which you saw is just that the male disturbing the pregnant one.

Grading depends on you. But usually shrimps that come with patterns like tigertooth or vband or no entry with normal white can be classified as "S". Not all offsprings resemble their parents. "S" can produce "SS" while "SS" can produce "A". So probably it will be good for the shrimps to grow first then judge.

I see. Thank you very much Spid. I am very much enlightened. Haha..by the way, some of the shrimps came from you. I must say your CRS are of very high quality, bought from you in June.

I bought a 2nd batch of supposedly As from another forumer, and he gave me juveniles that grew up and was of poorer grade. E.g. the white not so white. But yours...awesome. Yes, you are right, depends on the offsprings.

Interesting that you guys always assume CRS hobbyists are male. Even when I have my signature stated. haha.

Also, just curious, why do fellow forumers need to know the water parameters and the inhabitants or tank setup. How does it help? Sorry for the question, huh, just new to the the forum since June. Also, I really do not have any test kits to do the measurements.

Just keeping my tank simple .

i'm still a beginner but they look like S grade to me....
i guess people ask when they see successful breeders and want to achieve similar conditions in their tanks.... hehe....
anyway i understand you keep some crs in the office.. but for your tanks at home which chiller did you use?

No tanks at home. Both are in the office.

Thanks for your point, about why people want to know about the setup.

I didn't think it could help as I have a colleague who had the perfect setting, but still could not succeed.

So, even if one replicate with the similar parameters, it doesn't guarantee success. What I experience is, ideally use ADA soil, use ketapang leaves, use internal pump filter, keep wc minimal.--> that's my own experience and own opinion.

    Hi Brightsparky,

I read you mentioned that you pick up ketapang leaves in SG.
Where can we find them? And what must we do to make sure they do not have any pesticides residue left on them?

Hmm...didn't say that I pick them. In another forum, I said that in our country, we can pick them for free. Well, your question was one question that I asked when I joined this forum. The reply was that you can pick them at East Coast, Pasir Ris...mainly near the sea. In fact there are many other areas that have this tree, one just needs to be able to recognise it.

My colleague was the one who gave me the leaves. He in turn got them from his friends. I didn't know where to find them in my area. I just rinse off with tap water and drop into the tank.

Funny thing, was on Sunday, I took a walk in my estate. And lo and behold, I saw a dried leave that looked like the ketapang leaves. Took it to office on Monday, and my friend confirmed that it is Ketapang leaves. Which means, I have free supply for a long time to come. haha.

You mentioned getting rid of pesticide. I didn't know that they contain that in the first place. Well, the new leaves that I collected, I am having them washed and dried under the sun. Hope that is enough.

Its great that you have a free supply of leaves but these leaves that you pick up from our parks or by the road side are sprayed with pesticides or other chemicals which might result in deaths of your shrimps. so you might actually want to get them from our LFS or around the yo chu kang farm area ( around qian hu) cause i heard from fellow forumers that they dont spray chemicals on the trees over there.

Any reason why trees are sprayed with pesticides or chemicals? There are so many trees in our parks and roadside, NParks can cover them all meh?

Also, the ketapang trees are really huge, I don't think the spraying would reach the leaves. Also the amount of spraying would have to be alot for such big trees. Even LFS would pick them from somewhere, isn't it?

Do a google image search. Plenty to see. Distinctiveness is that the leaves normally turn red, before dropping off.

Probably just a precaution for chemicals left behind by mosquito fogging? The leaves that you picked up may just happen to be in areas where mosquito fogging is going on, residues may stick on to the leaves due to our humid weather. Even if spraying may not reach the leaves top of the tree, leaves that dropped on the floor could be subject to unwanted residues.

i belive bro Quixotic have proved what im trying to say. Shrimps are delicate pets that why i would advice on getting from LFS compared to manually picking. You may want to ask the LFS where they get their leaves from. I think that a responsible LFS would carry those that are not affected by chemicals.

But by all means pick up those that ae by the road side.
