    Hi all

I read in another forum that some CRS keepers given feedback that CRS will not breed in a small tank (i.e. anything less than a 5 gallon tank) despite given good water conditions and ideal temperature.

Is this hold true for all CRS keepers here?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Not for my case, my plastic tank is about 20 x 10 x 12 cm which my 6 original CRS/Diamond now breeding like nobody business.

Now in this tank, I have 4 CRS, 2 Diamond (original parent) plus about 40 plus baby CRS/Diamond, average about 4mm to 5mm long.

I will transfer the baby CRS/Diamond to another 1 foot tank once they reached 7mm to 8mm long.

Would say most of crs breeder recommend the bigger the size of tank, the better. For me, i prefer at least 1.5ft tank. And a comfortable size tank to keep the water parameter stable be 3ft -4ft tank for me.

In my opinion, it is not difficult to keep CRS alive in small tank for a short period of time. opt for bigger tank.

The bigger the tank, the easier to maintain and control the water parameters. Therefore people has the misconception that only bigger tanks provide the right conditions for shrimps to breed.

    I have a 2ft tank and a 3 ft tank for CRs.

When my 2 ft tank popultaion gets to near 100+ it seems a little over populated compared to a 3ft. In general the bigger the merrier

Hmm... I wonder in CRS kingdom, will they also know how to control their birth population to avoid over crowded?

In my little plastic tank, it seems that pregnant CRS take about 3 to 4 weeks to release their young.

Whereas in my 1 foot tank, pregnant CRS take about 2 weeks to release their young.

    I wonder why?

Since the temperature for night time is low, the average temperature should be able to maintain around 27 degree all night until the aircon is turn on next morning.

My office temperature is around 25 degree in day time and very isolated (no direct sunlight).

Very interesting observation... could be it by chance or has it been constant?

I've noticed it since the birth of little CRS in my one foot tank which is the second generation of my CRS.

Actually i find that small tank is easy to breed as they always able to find food and grow fast for breeding. Trouble is that need to transfer the shrimplets to larger tank. Maybe the number i have is always less than 10 in the tank. If i have 50crs in 1ft tank, it will be a different case.

In my small 10" CRS tank, berried to birth also takes about 4 weeks. I'm about to set up a 1.5 ft tank for CRS soon and will compare as you have as well.
