I don't understand whats going on right now. What i did to my tank yesterday was just some trimming and minor rearrangement of the plants and topped up about 1L of water thats all. Then around 2am or so they were all upside down on me legs kicking in the "air" and occasionally one or two will "spasm" and zip around the tank upside down? Some were not even moving I though they died so I removed them and suddenly saw some leg twitch here and there I quicky throw back in tank. Now I check on them and most of them are the right side up again but not displying the usual movements. They appear what I can best describe as "drunk" Seriously can someone tell me whats happening? They been growing well all the while since day one and suddenly like this...I really hope they survive

Did you check the new shrimps added? Did you dechlorinate the added water? Did you "disturbed" the substrate alot - especially your sandy portion?

Maybe Nitrate/Nitrite spike. Maybe some illness.

I got quite a number of cherries wipe out due to porcelain illness. Which I suspect came from the mixed shrimps that I bought to clear algae.

I only realised my cherries got porcelain illness when I realised there was a pattern for the death. And started reading. 1-2 shrimps die every 2 days. By the time I sorted out the issue, already lost most of the cherries.

This will be a good site to read about shrimp diesease and prevent them - http://www.shrimp-diseases-online.com/

For beginners like us, I would suggest minimal or no stem/rooted plants for shrimp tank. So as to minimise disturbance on substrate.
