Hi guys,
The last contest was held years ago. Looking at the fact that AQ has grown a lot since then and we have a lot more new members, perhaps it's time to consider the idea of an aquascaping competition again. We are looking at a forum level event and perhaps a selection of prizes to encourge/reward the best works submitted.
The objectives of the contest will be as follow:
1. To promote better Aquascaping
2. Fellowship of like minded aquarist through the forum
3. Showcasing the best works of our members
4. Inspire our members to a higher level of the hobby
5. Having some fun whilst we are at it
So, will you join the contest if AQ is to organise one?
Give us your thoughts, comments and feedback. If there is positive response, perhaps the plan will become a reality.
Cheers,

Yes, I would join for the fun of it. Give it some time benny, these kind of event needs momentum and someone to spearhead...![]()
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

yea.. i would join in too..

how about a mini aquascaping competition? small cube tank? :P

Seriously, I expect at least 100 voters on this thread....
Kind of surprised by the responses so far...

arg... just shut sell away my cube tank
Anyway it would be great if it has different size categories each time. I'm thinking it would be very-very challenging for 1ft cube to fight against 3ft tank for example.
This also gives an opportunity for other to win the competition. I do not think it is a good idea to have one person keep winning all the time. It will discourage other to participate.
Different theme might also work if announce earlier.

Perhaps there could be 1 or 2 workshop, and then some time for members to work on their tanks and submit.
There can also be a photography team to help them take better photos?
I think we need more support in this event and more getogether if we want to progress, forum and skill.

Yes i would join. We could have a get together session, workshop, photography, product review(get the merchant to joint us), door gift(everybody loves it, eg. merchant supply, sample fish foods etc...). We can also have aquascape clinic, get them to take photo of their setup, we can setup forms for them to download online and filled up those things and some photo before they bring on the day itself. We can organise competition like using cube tank on spot demonstration on setting up(iwagumi style). Example, Click >Here<. Of course a simple one.
Just a suggestion...

I do not mind joining but my tank is not ready.

Actually, I have something in mind and I'm thinking of doing something simple with very simple entry requirements.
Basically, just send in you best aquascape (one entry per person) and have a bit of fun. No tank size restriction. It does not mean that big tanks will always win. I have seen many well scaped small tanks. If we can get a sponsor or sponsors, we can have prizes for to reward the effort as well.
I'm not looking at hundreds of entries. I think the judges will go blind just running through the photos on the PC!!!I think 20 to 50 entries will be great!
Obviously, it's not going to be a splash and dash programe as aquascape takes time to mature. Perhaps over a 3 to 4 months period so that members can plan and execute their aquascape. If we time it well, the entries can even go on for submission in other contests next year (e.g. ADA, AGA, etc).
In the time leading up to the contest deadline, we can have some get together to chat or perhaps a tank photography workshop, etc, etc.
Cheers,

This is great! I'll looking forward to.![]()

Would suggest a theme to go with it. Timeframe for the scape to mature. And tank size. Age category maybe
Dont mind sponsoring a prize or 2.
Maybe a schedule like this:
Day 0-30
Submission of participant entries.
Day 31
2 Hours workshop on scaping this particular theme
Day 60-74
Submission of photos
Day 75-90
Judging
Day 91
Prize presentation + scape display

you guys seems like planning something big instead of just simple monthly competition like what MAC did.
