hi everyone...i have just started my new tank and my first as on today....
i have added some anti chlorine and added 2 plants for now...but the problem with it now is the filter...my tank is only a 2FT so does it require a filter to get it running or just weekly of self cleaning???

A filter would be good as it circulates the water and bring nutrients to plants and removes debris. The filter media also encourage beneficial bacteria growth. Internal or external units should be fine for your tank size.

Try to have more plants as well from the start.

Have you read the sticky post How to Get Started in Planted Tanks?

A filter provides filtration in 3 ways.

    1. Mechanical - removes debris, and small particles in the water keeping the water clear.

    2. Biological - removing ammonia from the water, breaking them into nitrites and nitrates

    3. Chemical - removing toxins from the water.

So with good a water filtration system, only minimum water changes is required for a fully cycled tank.

Yes it's better you have a filter. Stagnant water is never good water.

    Hi petra87,

can understand the temptation to always stock the tank up with all (if not most) of the nice fish you can find at LFSs; however, do take note not to overstock your tank with too much livestocks in case it leads to ammonia spike - which may endanger your existing & new livestocks in the tank...

You also need to consider if the new livestocks to be introduced are compatiable with your existing ones...

    Hope the above helps.

    Cheers!

oh...i regretted adding the 2 fightning fish inside cause i tend to see them trying to bite my tetra at night when they are sleeping -_-"

but then from experience from the 3ft tank at workplace the fighting fish live perfectly fine with the tetras and infact that tank got 3 male 1 female...

anyway is it true that from the infromation i gathered here, its not wise to have yamatoes with tiger bard??
