    Hi Guys

You all know that Eheim 2028 has 2 trays with the same media in it and its better to change 1 of the tray to biohome or all the trays to biohome? I am planning to change the media in the filter for my corydoras tank. So which type of media is good for the filtration.

If i load all the trays with biohome will it be better will it provide biological and mechanical filtration?

*my biohome means mixture of white (standard) & red (with nutrients).

    Need some comments and advise.

You definitely need some wool for mechanical filtration. Filling both trays with biohome won't help you in removing the finer particles.

I said what I said because of this.

Biohome will not do any good at providing mechanical filtration.

But they are great for biological. In terms of surface area it provides vs the volume it takes up in your canister, I think it is one of the best choice.

Anyway, if it is an established tank, or if you're using starter bacteria, then getting the grey biohome would be sufficient, no need to spend more in getting the red ones.

    Cheers

2028 comes with Ehiem Substrate MECH if I am not wrong, you can use that as the first layer for mechanical filtering. The rest is up to you.

The red ones are seeded with starter bacteria and will help bacteria to colonize faster.

If you ask me... the Eheim original media is not that bad. If your canister is "upsize" for your tank... then perhaps changing the media is not really necessary (but a good to have, aka luxury).

You need to have balance media, doesnt mean all biohome you will get the best filter media, depending on the bioload and fish poo produce, you still need to clean filter depending on the usage, the bigger canister it has the better, follow by the media. Too much biohome in the canister the water surface area is lesser, it'll slow down the flow rate also, causing clogging and so on and your bb will not be healthy also. Is just like too much CO2 trap inside the canister it'll cause hypoxia and it'll soon kill the bb and algae starts to infest the whole tank and so on.

Yes good choice stick with default as they are already very good. Likewise I also have the same but eheim is my 2nd filter. 1st is a atman which I filled all 3 trays with biohome+wool filter.

    IMO, moral of the story,
you want the best of your tank.
    get biohome.
you are okay with the eheim filter medias,
don't really have to get biohome.

i personally think that with biohome, there will be alot more BBs which lightens the bioload by alot. having filter clogged up is another matter of using filter wools, biohome is just like a much better choice of filter media comparing to others.

    my 2 cents.
