I was just down at PS for lunch, so I poked in to see the tank you mentioned... you're right its mostly stem plants in there... Hehe I even searched around to make sure they weren't doing external injection. Anyway, the tank is primarily H.polysperma 'sunset' and cabomba... there was something else in there, but my lil 'ol brain has forgotten already.

Interestingly, both plants are considered fast growers. So maybe the trick with low CO2 is to use fast growing plants, which when CO2 limited, are forced to cut back on growth.

I saw that tank too about 2 weeks ago. The light was pretty low. I think that's why they can keep it relatively algae free.

The broad leaf tied to driftwood... looks something like this? That is anubias. Under bright light, it may actually slow down growth and usually accumulate algae on its leaves. Keep them shaded or in a shaded area if you increase lights.

    Thanks for your reply,

Yup it looks like that however I also have growing like crazy towards the top, also growing like crazy...these two have grown to at least 30cm in height...but is not growing you can say at all.

Any possible reason is light and CO2 that I am lacking unless otherwise. Please help
    Thanks

Hi there thanks everyone for replying,

Shall take a look at the tank as mentioned but however I wish to overhaul my current setting and have a what say you base plant like the hair grass or pearl grass to spread thru out my tank and some other tall plant and mid height grass. Thats the reason for my addition for lights. As what I heard is insufficient light causing my base plant to stay stagnant.

    Please advice.
    Thanks

The reason the 2 plants are growing tall like crazy is also due to lack of light. They are growing tall to reach the surface and thus get more light.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

If you increase your lights without addition of CO2, there will be a high chance of algae attrack. I don't think Excel can meet the demand of CO2 in a high-lights tank.

Here is a link regarding Flourish Excel.

The NZ Grass that you have is a pretty slow grower... it also prefers colder temp waters (after all NZ is a cold place!)... which may explain its poorer growth.

    Hi Allen

my second para....is trying to say is that with good lighting wattage and high KH level without CO2, one can get good growth just that fert and mirco-management one needs to manage it well.

I have seen pretty good tanks with some, so called difficult plants growing quite well.

the purpose of CO2 injection is for the purpose of easy delivery of 'Carbon' and better management control.[]
