stone buddha decoration!! []
anyway as an aquarium tank it is not very big, the zoo and night safari has some pretty big ones but then they are not planted, and they're not free standing.
the 12ft tank at Pet Safari is probably around 3000 litres.
The is a new set-up by Oliver Knotts(Germany), He's a pro.
I'm totally impressed by this guy's work, POWER!
Do we have such capacity here?

This guy is really not sensitive to other people's culture and religion. His tank design overall is also not fantastic.

All his other tanks are at this URL http://www.plantella.com/

I have to agree with wks. Why must this person include a buddha figurine? I know that this a religious symbol even though I am not in the same faith. It's a planted tank but he could use some other item like a 16th century ship wreck to make it more 'real' and enjoyable.

Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.

For me, I'm still impressed with Amano's last big setup although I'm not an Amano fanatic. But again any fresh idea in the earth should be appreciated.
It is part of art & skill.
We know not so many Xtra Xtra Xtra Large tank can be build nicely.

Actually, I am not going to be too critical about it. In fact, it might start of a new revolution. I am a Buddhist, but I am not too offended if any. It may be a controversial design I have to say. But he might be inspired by something he saw in Ang Kor Wat maybe.
I have to agree that it might offend some people.
The only thing maybe is, what if algae grows on it![] [
]
That might be offensive, but many of the ancient ruins and temples are overan with mosses and other ferns!
There are also many people with waterfalls in their houses taht have buddha statues as well, so i really wonder where do we draw the line?

I like it very much.
Contrary to being offended it brings out the serene and peacefulness of Buddhism ... if there is algae growing on it is even more natural and cool !
I would say is a master piece of modern art. In fact, temples can learn something out from it rather than bounded by traditional standard design.

I have seen the other works by this guy and I think he is quite creative and he is good. I'm not a Buddhist but I'm not offended by the statue. It is refreshing to see new ideas brought into this hobby. As someone said, it might really start a trend. One of the Aquarama pics by Benny shows a submerged race track. I think that is very interesting especially if the little cars can move. I'm sure the kids will be thrilled. In a nutshell, I think we shouldn't be bounded by our conventional thinking. Let the mind explore new grounds.

Hi. Before those offended go and condemn Oliver, check out his reply in AquaBotanic.
I think it would only be fair to him if we know why the sculpture was in the tank in the first place.-------
This tank was build 3 years ago for an Asian tank with Arowanas. For this reason the Buddha sit in the tank. But it is to difficult to remove him because of the heavy weight. Now I rescape the tank with the Buddha in it.

if i am not wrong, this guy did the tank on behalf of this Kolle Zoo, so I suppose they would have some say in what goes in the tank, or its theme....
Actually, in places like Cambodia, you can find in streams lifelike sculpture and carvings of deities carved right on the waterworn rocks by the ancient kingdoms. i have only seen the pictures but they are really magical in their lifelike serenity. Many ancient temples there are also virtually one with the elements, as fig trees have embraced the buildings and wild animals dwell in the abandoned cities.
Water seems to be associated with many positive elements in Asian cultures (think Buddha's Water Wheel, and Thailand's Songkran water festival). And don't forget Amano's transplanting of Japanese Zen principles (an offshoot of Buddhism) to planted aquaria. From this point of view, the Buddha statue does have a place in an aquatic setting, no less than those who depict the Buddha in various other settings from mountain tops to deep valleys and scenic lakes/hill streams. incidentally, you can see a small indian fig tree (the one with large white and green leaves) in some of the photos.... which seems appropriate given the Buddha's enlightenment beneath a bo tree (a type of indian fig).
River of carvings

apparently, many of those streams that are carved with Buddhist scriptures are to blessed the waters leading up to Ang Kor. I once watched a documentary on it before. Ang Kor has some sort of river beside it or along it (not sure) and the rivers are fed from these water from these carved stream beds further up. The water are blessed and cleansed in the process.
very interesting and remarkable!![]()

think the Angkor Wat is built on the high-water line of the Tonle Sap and is linked to it by complex of canals.

Much of Oriental philosophy and religion actually values all life (human and non-human) as sacred. Strangely, this doesn't seem to be the case for modern Orientals.

Looks cool, reminds me of part 1 of Feng Yun... [] [
