I got a feeling that my killies in the balcony show better and contrasting colour that those that are kept in my living room (without plant lighting).

Any comment and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Under sunlight, most of the killifish will show very strong colour contrast. In actual fact, killifish don't like the enviroment with strong lighting.

    KC,

On the contrary, killies are known to prefer subdued lighting. In dark tanks, killies will show off colours that are usually not visible in bright conditions. When I had the Aphosemion poliaki, I never knew how beautiful they were until I took their pictures. In my tanks, they look dull but the colours in their pictures were incredible. Take a look:

But as Au said, there's something about sunlight which brings out the colour of fishes. I used to keep Goldfish many years ago and my Black Moors will turn white if I keep them indoors. In my balcony tanks, they are black as charcoal.
