Rashid,
Thanks for the info but I have never heard of OSI and I don't know anything about the brine shrimp eggs from China. Payment could be a problem as they don't seem to accept credit cards.

Hi to all
while browsing through the net I saw a brand that has a pricing way much more than the others like San Francisco Bay or Salt Lake brine shrimp. the brand is named OSI.
Anyone of you out there especially from the States has use this brand before? I juzt want to know why is it so expensive a 3.5oz of eggs cost about US$40...
I bought mine from NABS (90% hatch rate)6oz for US$12.
and also KL, I came acroos another brine shrimp from Asia namely China and they claim their hatch rates the same as in State rages from 60%, 70%, 80% and 90%. http://www.oceanartemia.com but got to order in bulk min purcahse 6 cans.
If I have a dollar & you have a dollar & we swap, neither is better off. BUT if I have an idea & you have an idea & we swap we are both richer

OSI is a relatively unknown brand. I first heard of it several years ago when I was reading through a copy of Tropical Fish Hobbyist. OSI stands for Ocean Star International. They deal alot in the manufacture of fish food. As for their brine shrimp eggs, I am not too sure of the quality of their eggs.
Anyway, regarding the Salt Lake brine shrimp, their nauplii is much larger than the ones from the San Francisco Bay form. If i'm not wrong the SF Bay nauplii are the tiniest among all artemia species.
In Asia, we can find A. urmiana (from Iran), A. sinica (from China), A. tibetiana (from Tibet, China) and the Kazakhstan species. I read somewhere that the nauplii of the Asian species are the largest among the whole lot. Surprisingly so, that may explain the cheaper cost of buying eggs from China or other sources other than those from the States.A. franciscana Kellogg (1906) and A. persimilis Piccinelli and Prosdocimi (196, and in the Old World species i.e. A. salina Leach (1819) (in Triantaphyllidis et al. 1997), A. urmiana (Gunther 1890), A. sinica (Cai 1989), Artemia sp. from Kazakhstan (Pilla and Beardmore 1994) and A. tibetiana (Abatzopoulos et al.199

I am using a Korean brand sold during Aquarama, according to the supplier, the brine shrimp crypts were harvested from China then processed and packed in Korea. The Chinese BS is smaller as compared to the GSL strain, only slightly bigger than the SFB strain, and the hatch rate for my batch is more than 90%. A couple of people (Au, Ronnie and Kenneth/Darren) here have tried this and have given very good feedback. However the colour of this strain is not appealing, instead of bright red/orange (GSL) the Chinese BS are pinkish.Originally Posted by stormhawk
BTW products from or make in Asia might be cheaper, but not be of low quality, it could be due to currency exchange, low labour cost and many other factors. I am saying this as a few hobbyists gave me the stun look when I told them that I use BS from China.
Regards,

Sia Meng,
That's why I was tempted to try the eggs from China but unfortunately must order in bulk of a min. purchase of 6 cans of them and also no credit payment...
am still looking for website who deals with these China eggs, perhaps from the Asia region for better exchange rates.

Rashid, what kind of price are we talking about? Most LFS priced them between $60 g$80 per can. Unless its much cheaper, I'll rather get them locally since I don't have problems hatching them.

Hi Rashid,
The company that sold the Korean brand brine shrimp eggs actually brings in a few number of other brands and re-export out to Indonesia, Thailand and other countries (he doesn’t keep stocks for local market) For the benefit of everyone, I have just called him and he has agreed to sell us $42.00~$45.00 a can provided we buy 6 cans at 1 go.
Ceres Agriculture & Chemical Co.
There is another shop in Jalan Bersah Plaza that supplies BS eggs to our local fish farm here. He supplies other imported fish food as well (quite a big timer). His BS is a process in Thailand, however the eggs itself is from US. I can remember the brands but petmart is carrying his BS. I think he mentioned $45.00~$50.00 a can (no min order). I will buy from him when my BS runs low. The shop name is Kings aquafeed supply.
Regards,

Just went down to Jalan Besah Plaza, the Brand carries by King’s aquafeed is Bio Marine. http://www.aquafauna.com/
Regards,

Sia Meng, I've just called Kings aquafeed supply for the BBS, the price now is $65 per can, weight 425g and the hatch rate is 85%.
