If you have seen the speed at which Yamatoes can pick apart a fish carcass, you wouldn't want them near your eggs![]()
Hi all,
In this thread, Christian asked, "Do you think amano shrimp (also known as japanese swamp shrimp) will eat eggs? I have been seeing the shrimp crawling on the mop quite a bit lately."
I took some pics of the shrimps that's in my killie rack and although I consider the 'Cherry' to be safe, and for others, the 'Malayan', there might some I've overlooked or have not tried.
This is the 'Cherry' that's good in the breeding partitions. It doesn't harass and just go about cleaning up the tank. Bigger pic here. I don't think they have pincers but look at this and tell me.
I'm experimenting with the 'Tiger'... somewhat more aggressive in cleaning but...
Bigger pic here.
I like this pic... can imagine the commentator at the turf club going... "and we're at the home stretch with Tiger is in the lead, followed by Cherry...."

There are lotsa pics on the net with yamatoes (Amano shrimp) so I won't cover that. I have these too but I don't quite trust them and have them search for hidden eggs, after I've vacated the partition and readying it for other breeders.
So... my present fave is Cherry but YMMV.
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,
Ronnie Lee

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
