Actually.. I think they can be grown submersed. I remember seeing them grown submerged when I was doing carnivorous plants a few years back. They can actually be located growing in peat bogs where the soil are marshy and moist. However the growth is very slow and would probably take a very long time to propagate.

If it's Sphagnum Moss, it wouldn't be of any use to aquarists. The professor gave me some when I was in his lab a few weeks ago. I tried growing them in my tanks but they all melted. The Prof told me later that Sphagnum Moss isn't aquatic. They can't grow under water.
