    Hi Guys,

Any body have any experience with trichomanes javanicum.

I bought one a couple days ago at my LFS.

When I got home I googled it, and the results were about half and half saying emmersed as opposed to submersed.

    Thanx, CD
How did I get so many tanks?

    Hello Doug,

Trichomanes javanicum is a fern that is more suitable for terrariums than aquariums. It'll remain green submersed for months (w/o new growths) but will eventually blacken and die.

Avoid impulse purchases -- research before buying. I wish I'd taken that advice more often.

    Thanx Case,

I had a feeling that that it would be a terrarium plant.

I usually do research before buying, but this shop does not get many plants and what they do get disappears fast.

I guess I'll put together that terrarium I was thinking about doing. LOL

    Again thanx a lot, CD

The Trichomanes ferns are not your usual grow-and-forget Boston/Java ferns. This group, together with the genu Hymenophyllum (both also known as filmy ferns) have leaf blades that are only one-celled thick (for water absorption) and grow by streams and waterfalls. They are not aquatic ferns. But even in terrariums, if the leaves don't get a regular spurt of water and a very high moisture environment, they will shrivel up.
