Lily, didn't anyone tell ya that these killies aspire to be immortals? At least now you don't have to worry whether this killie is an annual or not!![]()
Personally, a glass lid over their tanks is a 'must'.

Lily,
Well, at least you can learn a lesson!!
I have the problem of sometimes not doing anything about a problem until it happens.I had read that killies can jump into another tank if one is not careful. But I passed it off... until I was cleaning out some tanks and left a few lids off. Then to my surprize I saw a little guy jump...lucky for him he landed in a neighbor's tank and very lucky for me that I saw him go.

I had the same experience too. I was doing some stuff when I had the sudden urge to take a look at my fishes. While fiddling with my tanks, I noticed that there is only one fish left in my Aphyosemion bitaeniatum Lagos tank. I panicked and started looking around. Lucky for me, I noticed it jumping about near the tank. A miracle from God! Imagine finding it dried up near the tank the next day.
KL i have a confession to make, the pair that you gave me sometime ago jumped and dried like ikan billis. Since then i did not keep killifish anymore.

Don't worry about it, Subzero. I have yet to meet a Killifish keeper who didn't lose a few fish from jumping. It seems like everyone has to learn the hard wayOriginally Posted by subzero
If you're ready to try again, just drop over for another trio of Aphyosemion australes.

Oh ya! I lost 7 australes once when I kept them in a pail while rescaping my tank over night. The pail was covered, leaving a gap for ventilation. Only half filled with water! You will be surprise how accurate they are at jumping out of the smallest gap.Originally Posted by timebomb

my turn then
Gan, most killies can clear 6" of water quite easily and are dead accurate when the water-to-gap distance is close, which was how I lost a pair of the RIV cylindraceus.Originally Posted by Gan
The trio was in a 2gal Nisso plastic tank which has a sliding top that was opened slightly wider than an air tubing. I was collecting their mop this morning and inside the tank, was a lonely female (Lily, sorry). The pair was found nearby... looking very 'immortal', much like the 1st pic that Lily showed.
On a brighter note, they did leave behind a legacy... of 7 fry & 6 good eggs. Fry are pretty huge for a newborn (pics coming up soon) and I've transferred them to a grow-out container (Lily, would you like to raise these fry again? You seem to have better fingers with RIVs).

Hey Ronnie,
Incidents like this occurred to newbie like me is acceptable but not to someone so experienced like you!!![]()
In this case, “sorry” does not sound appropriate as I have only ONE male out of that shipment so I think it’s time I do some “black mailing” for a decent compensation. I am sure you guys will agree with me.
BTW, I have better fingers with other things like redoing my tanks; perhaps I adopt them at a later date.![]()

Lily, here's a pic of the little fellas. Fry on extreme right was a "cut & paste" job as it was too far off the group and I wanted to keep the cropping tight.
Let me know when mommy's ready to bring 'em home

Folks,
I've one lonely adult RIV cylindraceus female that needs a mate. Anyone with a sole or extra 'Al Castro' male?
Anyway, here's an update on the brood before a pair took the leap of faith...

Hey Ronnie,
Me too, have got one female RIV cylindraceus swimming aimlessly in my tank with the australes. A very sad sight indeed when she is not alone in that tank but feeling very lonely...![]()
