    Hi, folks,

Are there any Eagles' fans out there? I'm a big fan of the band and it's so damn hot these days, I'm reminded of the song by Glenn Frey.

I was pretty proud of my Erect Moss which I'm growing emersed in my terrarium tank. Here's a pic of it taken about a month ago:

But the heatwave we are having now has taken its toll. Here's how the moss looks like now:

Close up, it looks even worse:

Song and lyrics by Glenn Frey:

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat's so loud, deep inside
The presure's high, just to stay alive
    Cause the heat is on
    Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
    Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)

Sigh, I feel the heat alright and so do my poor mosses

Mr Loh, did you fertilize the water which is supplied to the erect moss? Emersed plants are not limited by CO2 and hence nutrients uptake can be pretty great. The heat might be partly the reason but I feel it is the lack of macro nutrients (most likely nitrogen in the form of ammonia or nitrate) which is causing the problem. Since you don't go into stuff like KNO3 or other form of nutrients, you might consider feeding the fish more in the terrarium or add more fish.

    Hi guys,

I was thinking of setting up a terrarium as well. (Going to 'sacrifice' a tank for it) Can someone guide me? Use eggcrates to raise level? Will really appreciate any advise on that.

By the way, what's the difference between a terrarium, plaudium, vivarium and biotope?

P.S. Loh, can you post a some pictures of your terrarium? :P

    Selwyn,

You can see how I set up my terrarium at this thread.

    Peter,

I have never add fertiliser to the terrarium tank but now that you mentioned a lack of macro-nutrients, I think that's a possible reason. Recently, many of the Killies inside that terrarium died from fish TB so I've not been feeding as often as I used to. The recent heatwave cannot be discounted though. It's so hot in the afternoons, the heat is like a blast from the oven when you walk from an air-conditioned room to outside. I don't know about you guys but I suppose many of you work in air-conditioned offices. Poor me, I work outdoors and the thing I can tell you, it's never been so hot, not as far as I can remember.
